Winter recreational crabbing ?

Subject: Winter recreational crabbing ?

I have an annual crabbing license. I understand that there's Winter Crabbing allowed, and one of my slip neighbors told me in my Area 9 this could be for the first two weeks of October. The neighbor also said this winter crabbing will be very beneficial as Commercial and Tribal crabbing is not allowed during this time.

So, where do I find out when this 'winter crabbing' for my Area 9 starts and ends ? I've reviewed the web page at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/17/ but there's no evidence as of yet about when the winter crabbing will be. All I see is this .... "Closed at the end of the day on Labor Day September 4, 2017. Any potential winter openings will be announced in early October."

Has anyone made use of the Winter Crabbing and what were your results ? Thanks... 🙂

I crab in area 9.
The WDFW Usually announced opening in mid October for winter season and usually goes to end of December also they allow it for 7 days a week. We have to wait until the make there announcement.

I hate to tell you this but this but last week the tribes have carpet bomb this area with so many pots. I had hard time driving through them. But hopefully they have a left few for us.

Hey.... FYI... Winter crabbing for Area 9 will be open from Oct 7 to Dec 31 2017. It's allowed for every day Mon-Sun as well.
