I'm keeping my R27 OB in the water (salt) over the winter and during those times when I'm not using it for a week or so, I've trimmed the motor up and used gravity feed to run RV antifreeze through the fresh water flush hose. The Yamaha dealer suggested it would be better to trim the engine down and leave the lower unit in the water. Their reasoning was that having the engine tilted down would allow any water in the system to drain out (at least from the head down to the water line) and the part that was in the water would be above freezing. They didn't seem to worry about any corrosion issues. They still recommended doing the fresh water flush after use though.

With regard to winterizing the fresh water system. I put antifreeze in the fresh water tank after pumping it dry and then I found that getting the antifreeze solution through the hot water lines took time and a lot of fluid due to the antifreeze accumulating in the hot water tank. I'm thinking that a more efficient way is to bypass the hot water tank by disconnecting the input and output lines (easy to access these) and using a short hose to connect these two lines and then run the pump to move the antifreeze through the system. I then could manually add antifreeze to the hot water tank (hose and funnel) and reconnect the lines.

Anyone see any issues with these procedures?
