I have a 2021 C28. The head is not connected to the multiport strainer, it has a separate dedicated thru hull fitting. What is the process to winterize that line going to the head? There is no apparent way to easily disconnect the hose at the thru hull valve. Do I need to cut the line and install a fitting to use compressed air to blow out the line?

I also have a C28. All I do is pour some pink antifreeze in the head, then run it a little to get the fluid into the sump. Do you keep your boat in the water during the winter or on the hard? Do you have electric available?

We've got a 2020 C28 with what sound like the same plumbing. When I winterized last year, I took apart the backflow valve and then inserted the hose into a container of antifreeze. I then flushed until the antifreeze was flowing into the head. This is not the easiest method, and there is at least one thread on here where someone added a t-fitting to make this easier. This was on my list, but I am going to convert to freshwater flush instead. Additionally, we keep our boat in the water with a bilge heater, which should keep that line from freezing anyway.

Hi all,

For the boats that have the head connected to the multi strainer, you can simply add the pink antifreeze to the multi strainer while that seacock is closed, and then send the antifreeze to whichever components you need. For those 28s that have the separate pickup, you can open the seacock to allow the water to drain from that line and add the antifreeze through the head, like Gypsy mentioned. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf

Thanks everyone. I keep it in my heated shop but will have to pull it outside this winter for some work being done in my shop so need the winterization completed.

Update: I thought there had to be an easier way to winterize the supply line from the sea cock to the head. There is. (My boat is stored on a trailer). I bought 3 feet of 1/2 inch heater hose and cut notches in one end of it so that it would fit in the through hull fitting which has tabs at 12 and 6 o'clock. I jammed it in as tight as I could and put the other end in my pink antifreeze container. With the sea cock open I then ran the head until I used up about 2 gallons of pink. Success. I think Cutwater should include this with their winterization procedure video or how to's.

I have not tried this yet on my Cutwater26 as the parts are on order. My wash down pump uses quick connects (female) for both input and output. So I purchased a Johnson Pump Universal Strainer 40 Mesh Screen 3/8-1/2" #09-24652-02-CN which has female connectors on both sides. and also a Johnson Pump 09-47094 KlickTite Garden Hose Adapter Port Connector
(Male). The reason I had to buy the universal strainer as johnson does not sell a female connector only males. The current strainer has a female for input and male for output.

I will turn off the sea cock then disconnect the existing strainer from wash down pump and connect the garden hose adapter to wash down pump , run the pump with the garden hose in the RV anti freeze gallon. Then connect the universal strainer to the male connector that was connected to the older strainer and now connect the garden hose to the other end with the hose now in another antifreeze gallon. Run the toilet and I am hopping it will suck it into the multi port then the toilet. If this works I can run anti freeze without taking apart hoses just click to disconnect the parts. It will also allow me to run vinegar thru the toilet to get ride of the smell from the decaying critters that are sucked in from the sea. I used wd40 to lubricate the connectors before trying to remove them. I will add more pictures as I go https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

Ok Got the parts and it worked very well. unlock the original strainer and replaced it with the Universal strainer that connected to the hose from the multi port strainer. and ran the garden hose to the bottle of the anti freeze. Turned on the toilet and it sucked it in. (as long as the sea cock is closed). The purchase of the garden hose adapter was not really needed as the universal strainer has several hose connectors but one has to buy the hose and clamps.

After I did the toilet I connected the hose with the garden hose adapter to the wash down pump and turned the pump on for a few seconds to get anti freeze into the wash down pump and hose.

I added more pictures https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... _IR-NkU5-5 FYI I separated the engine water input to a separate sea cock a few years ago so the standard multi port strainer only feed toilet and wash down but it should also work for the engine if you kept the original configuration.
