Hi all,

Thank you to everyone who responded to my previous thread about topics for As the Prop Turns. One of the topics that came up frequently was the subject of Winterizing. We've done an episode on winterizing (https://youtu.be/mHZr7ANbIkI) in the past but we're realizing there must be some gaps in what we covered.

In light of that, we've decided to make a video covering the basics and other common questions about winterizing. We realize that by now, most have already winterized their boats but many may still have questions or have discovered some aspects they'd like to know more about. We'd like to provide answers for this year, and years to follow.

With that long-winded introduction out of the way, what are some of the questions you'd like answered in a video about winterizing?

Address the use (or non-use) of antifreeze that contains alcohol.

I've seen several recent posts regarding the best way to winterize the water heater.

Using cabin and bilge heaters

Maybe something on monitoring apps to keep track of cabin and bilge temperatures

It would be interesting to see some comparisons of water temp, outside air temperature, and internal cabin temperatures during a cold snap, I've often wondered whether sitting in a 42 degree salt water bath would keep the cabin and bilge above freezing if the outside air temp was really cold

I liked the previous video on using an air compressor to blow out the lines instead of running so much antifreeze through the system.

The fresh water system gets the most attention but perhaps more on the engines as well.

Separate video for inboard and outboard. Show the various configurations of raw water intakes.

There are many of us that do not take our boats out of the water during the winter (especially those of us in the PNW) - it would be great to get a run down of things your recommend for those owners during the winter months (along with the recommended intervals for performing such tasks). THANKS.

These are great questions, I'll run them by our customer service team. Thank you for your responses!

Hi Brian:
I have watched your very helpful winterizing video and have a follow up question. It appears that you connect the air compressor line to the inflow side of the fresh water pump. Is there any concern that the air pressure, even at 20psi, might cause damage to the pump mechanism itself? Thanks.

I know a dim bulb guy who thought the fresh water system regarding sinks, heads, shower, etc. was emptied first, then pinked. And he thought the hot water tank was emptied out second. That now much smarter guy realized (of course) that the hot water tank is emptied simultaneously with the fresh water system. Not 2 separate steps. Memorializing here for future new boat peeps like me.

Personally, I would like you to address treating (or not) fresh water system before winter and the difference between being in fresh water and salt water for the winter as many of us are here in Lake Union.
