Subject: With F300 engine key at first position F300 makes a noise

I've noticed that when I have the Yamaha F300 engine key turned one notch so that the Garmin 7612 reveals engine and fuel data, the F300 emits a soft sound/whine just like you might hear from a computer with its cooling fan running at low revs.

I know there must be a ton of electronic stuff in the engine and wonder what may be making this sound ? Could it be a transformer wiring hum maybe or maybe the engine's ECU unit humming ? .... just dunno.... so will be asking my Yamaha service person about this. 🙂

Could it be the fuel pump pressurizing the system?

My F300 service manager says it's the fuel pump making the humming noise. He also said do not leave the engine in the ON position for too long as that would be 'bad'. I have to place the engine key in the ON position in order to have engine data displayed on my Chartplotter when configuring "Add fuel" to the Garmin chartplotter's data base.

It was good advice thought to never have the engine key in the ON position for too long. 🙂
