In the service manual it states that at 100 hrs one should check and or replace engine zincs. I’m not referring to the one mounted on the mount. Has anyone changed these out as a DIY project, how many are there? Thoughts?

Are you referring to the 8 crankcase anodes and 2 thermostat anodes inside the engine?

Not those, it is my understanding that these should be done by a mechanic, but I’d like your thoughts on them. The one I’m looking to find out about is the cylinder head exhaust passage, as listed in the maintenance manual.

Martin….in doing more research I think what you referred to is correct. I saw on your parts list where you called them cylinder crankcase exhaust passage anodes. The manual indicates that Yamaha suggests a service tech install these. The job appears to be fairly straight forward enough for an owner to do this or am I
Missing something?

They aren’t complicated to get to. 4 of them anyway. The other 4 require replacing of the head gasket. Still not too tough. Just need the gasket and some yamabond gasket sealant.

At 300 hours mine looked brand new. When I’m at 500 hours (which should occur in another couple of months), I suspect they’ll still look like new.

Good to know, I’m only at 60 hours so I’ll check on the easy 4 after our summer boating season this year.
