What is the optimal RPM range for the Yamaha 300 OB ?

Thank you Martin !

My numbers are very similar to Submariner. I have started playing with different props and haven't beaten the 15.75x15 factory prop yet.

Which one's have you tried thus far?

SOLAS Titan HR 14.5x15x4 I have a call scheduled for tomorrow morning with Sharrow. I am interested to see what they have to say.

Talked with Sharrow this morning. Very prompt on their call. The are currently only working custom one off props, engineer on the boat for several hours gathering data then designing and machining a prop to suit your needs. They are hoping to have the out of the box cast props available sometime in 2022. I will be following up with them this fall/winter.

For academic interest only. Are you trying to achieve better fuel economy or higher top speed? If the former what do you consider an acceptable pay back time on the investment?

Thanks

I'm looking for a second prop for Channel Surfing.

1) I will eventually ding the one I have (The Yamaha Saltwater II 3x15.75x15-T). I want a spare lying around.
2) I am always looking for better hole shot and am willing to give up top-end speed for it.
3) More grab at slower speeds, specifically in rougher seas and when docking in the wind.

I'm not as concerned with fuel efficiency, as long as it remains close to what I get today.

With all the deadheads and other boat wakes, it's nice to simply slow down and come off plane, get thru the hazard, then pop back up on plane quickly.

My last boat came with a 3 blade aluminum prop that would do almost 60mph on flat water but needed quite the runway to get up on plane (no trim tabs either). Then my father ran my brand new boat aground on fathers day. (true story!) Destroyed the 3 blade aluminum prop. We hobbled our way back to shore and back onto the trailer safely. When I swapped it out for a Mercury Marine stainless "high-five", 5 blade prop, it was an entirely different boat. Hole shot was amazing! Top end speed dropped by about 6mph. Hands down, worth every penny. I don't expect results like this on our R27-OB. But am curious as what could be achieved.

I'm going to order and try out the PowerTech 4 blade, Class-E, prop that Salty Bliss used on their R27-OB and see how I like it.

Hey Martin, I bought that PowerTech 4-blade that Salty Bliss had on their R27. If you want to try it before you buy one, let me know. I haven't had a chance to put it on our boat yet.

Good ideas, Martin. I'll look forward to your reports and video!

I'd be down for this! I'm going to be hauling the boat out later this month (Shrimp season ends June 19,2021) for the 300 hour service. I have a spot at Dagmars that I use as my Nascar pitstop for engine maintenance, so getting a haul-out requires no advanced planning and incurs no additional cost. That would be awesome to run it for a week or two. I'd run it through the same paces I did when I put together this.

Chimo, we are lookin for fuel efficiency/range. We go multi day away from the dock trips upwards of 200+ NM.. a 10-30 percent gain would be nice to have.
