I have used a service center inside the locks for a few years. I’m looking for another choice, any suggestions?
The place I go to does good work, but it’s pretty pricey and scheduling is not something they do well. They usually want to bring it in now and be ready to leave it for a couple weeks for 100 hr service on the Yamaha
That coupled with lock closures has made me search for another choice.
Any recommendations for a yard with haulout and factory authorized Yamaha service?
A good price is also a plus

Ernie: When I had my R27/OB (Yamaha F300) and having it in the Port of Edmonds, I was lucky to have Jacobsens right next door to the marina. Call them at 206-789-7474 at 345 Admiral Way, Edmonds, WA 98020 - service@jacobsensmarine.com and http://www.jacobsensmarine.com

They serviced my F300 and the 9.9 HP kicker motor and did excellent work.

The way it worked when needing a service check was to schedule the appointment with them and when the day arrived I would leave my boat's cabin key and engine key with them the day before. Then on the day, they went to the boat, took it to the lift to haul out, placed it on their own trailer, used a fork lift to pull the trailer down to their shop that was some 1000 feet away, perform the service work, trailered the boat back to the lift, lowered boat to water and took it back to my slip, and left the boat locked up. They then would call me saying all done and to pickup my keys. It all was so efficient and I believe for the first service check I had done by them the fee was around $600 that covered their time, and also the cost for lift to/from water as well.

For you, if you were to use Jacobsens in this fashion I would think all you had to do would be to cruise up to Port of Edmonds and reserve a guest slip or arrange to meet Jacobsens at the lift. Not sure what method you would use to get back home while the servicing was being done; Sounder train to/from Seattle, bus to/from Seattle or a Uber ride both ways. I also believe there's a Jacobsens in the Seattle area.

I’ve also heard good things about Jacobsen’s and am considering following your suggestion of getting a guest slip to facilitate the initial100 hr service on my R27. I would be interested in knowing if there is a back up inside the locks that is also recommended. In calling around most seem pretty expensive.
Thanks very much for any advice you may have.

Another vote for Jacobsens. I used to keep my old boat at Waypoint inside the locks. I've heard they lost their Yamaha dealership license. I had great experience with them but I was also a moorage tenant so probably got "favored" status.

We took our R21 to Gallery Marine in Lake Union for Yanmar work. They are a Yanmar certified dealer. They did good work. They are located to the east of Ivar's fish house right near the bridge.

bumping this thread. I just called Jacobsen and they aren't taking any service appointments till after the new year. I would like to get my 20-hour service done before then. I am on Bainbridge Island, and I don't have a trailer. Does anyone have suggestions for another authorized Yamaha service center in the Seattle / Bremerton / Des Moines / Tacoma / Everett area? This is for a 27OB. Thanks!

Hey johnbenj...

We also have an R27OB in the water on Bainbridge.
Nikos Passas with Passas Marine is a phenomenal boating and engine resource.
He provides the service on my boat, and those of many of my friends. Always very knowledgeable and he has a special affinity for Yamaha outboards.

He can typically service the boat in the water, so no need to haul or borrow a trailer.

Email his wife Marina at passasmarine@yahoo.com with questions or to set up work.

Feel free to message me with questions.

I’ve been using Waypoint Marine
It’s on the lakeside of the Locks. Pretty much on your immediate left when you come out of the locks

I have yet to go through the locks. 🙂

My personal experience with my 2020 Cutwater that is now a year old. COVID hit and getting 20 hour/100 hour service was near impossible. Turns out it's super easy DIY if you even have tiny bit of mechanical inclination.

For 20 hour: Change the oil- you can get one of these: https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-mar ... ecordNum=1. My Y250 takes 5 Quarts of WD30 synthentic. OIl Filter is easy to change as well, but I'll warn you, the first time you're going to find out Dwayne The Rock Johnson put it in...its TIGHT. (you'll need an oil filter wrench).

I've changed my own oil every 50 hours. For the 100 hour I changed the spark plugs (super easy) the water/oil separator (even easier), and the gas filter. I need to change the gear oil which I'll have to take her out of the water this winter and do.

My .02 and I learned a lot about the motor in the process. I also keep all the receipts and log it all for maintenance records.

I concur with Remedy2.

I couldn't get a 20hr service done either back in July after we took delivery of our boat. I needed a haul out and mechanic at the same time. With Covid, nobody was available. So I ended up doing it myself. It's not hard, I will continue doing it myself. The 100 hour is the same as the 20hr, with the addition of spark plugs. The 200 hour I've got coming up next month, that adds thermostats.

I have also done all my own maintenance on my Yamaha 9.9 and 300. I also have a 115 Yamaha on my Alumaweld and have done all the maintenance in the 7 years (little easier sitting in my driveway than my slip) .
I have never changed spark plugs on the 115. I have inspected and they still look great with 350 hours on them. My kicker probably has twice the hours and the spark plugs have never been changed in it either. They look new.
My question is why replace the spark plugs every 100 hours as that’s about equivalent to 5000 miles on a car even if you add in the higher RPM? My Yamaha App says to inspect and replace if necessary every 100 hours. Light tan color on the porcelain and no wear on the electrodes.

I agree with you and I only did it being paranoid about any warranty issues. Super simple- took me 20 mins and the boat was in the water. But, yes, probably completely unnecessary.
