Yanmar 3YM (for 21EC) Impeller

Here (http://www.boatersmarinesupply.com/m7/3 ... r-kit.html) is a good deal on the impeller kit for our Yanmar 3YM engines. It is a Johnson kit and the pump is a Johnson pump so it's not "aftermarket."

Compare this to the "Yanmar" labelled impeller...a MUCH better deal, especially considering it includes the water soluble lubricant AND the O-ring. The last time I bought a "Yanmar" impeller, the O-ring was extra.

I'm not suggesting you buy from THIS merchant...you could search the internets for a deal on the Johnson 09-810b impeller if you feel compelled.

I'm just passing along a good deal.

Thanks for the tip. This is a good price. I haven't put one in yet but it's about time to change mine out. Do you have to have a puller to get the old one out or can you pull it out with pliers.

Hello Karl,

You will need SOMETHING to pull the impeller but you DONT need an "impeller puller" type tool. I used my standard long nosed pliers. Grab the impeller at the base of one of the wings and pull. You could probably use your hand if your fingers were small enough to reach into the small space.

Probably ANY type of plier would work for this impeller.

Re: Johnson impellers / kits. I agree, great quality and the price is much better.

FWIW, in case anyone else is looking to remove an impeller for the first time, I used two sets of 'wide' needle nosed pliers. I grabbed one of the fins on one side and another fin on the other side of the impeller and applied equal pressure to pull it off. I was able to get it off easily and without any damage to the impeller. The impeller pullers I have looked at are about $100 and unless you like tools or have an impeller that is severely seized onto the shaft I doubt you will need one. Also try to stay away from prying the impeller out with two screwdrivers, if you can. You don't want to damage the pump housing / seal. Again, just an fwiw - as I am sure there are lots of people on the forum with tons more experience doing this than I :ugeek:
