I need the correct voltage reading at the Yanmar 4BY2 Oil Pressure Sensor - both with the engine OFF and the engine ON but not running. The sensor need not be disconnected, I'm just trying to find out what should be present at the two terminals. Polarity doesn't matter, just touch the meter's leads to the two connectores.

Is there a fuse on the sensor wire for the oil pressure? Is it in the ECU or before the interface?

Thank you. /Stu

The sensor works via ohms not voltage. As pressure increases it has more resistance and there is a correlation between the resistance and oil pressure. So if you want to check if it is functioning put your multimeter in the ohms selection and touch both terminals. As you increase rpm you should show more resistance.

I understand how the sensor works.

Yanmar measures the Ohms by applying a voltage and measuring the resultant current, just as your multimeter does.

I need to find the voltage Yanmar uses. Already measured the resistance. /Stu

Hey there Stu,

I would suggest calling Yanmar America or a local dealer to get you the information. Yanmar customer service - (855)416-7091.

Thank you,
Andrew
