I got the old one out but can't determine which direction the splines should be bent. Anyone know which direction the water pump turns and impeller rotates? You can't see the impeller since it is under the generator and almost impossible to get at. Have to feel for it. I got the old one out but can't get the new one in. Stupid place to put it since very difficult to get at. So which direction does the impeller rotate?

The engine is a LEFT HAND rotating engine. Engine rotation designation is always from the flywheel. Now, if you are viewing from the front of the engine the rotation of the belt pulley is RIGHT HAND rotation (Clock wise). It is hard to explain the rotation of the impeller because it is based on the position of the person installing the impeller. The impeller will install as if you are threading in a bolt. Use a zip tie to bend the impeller blades back ( blades lay back opposite the direction the impeller turns) this will help you to get the impeller splines lined up with the pump shaft splines. Use the lubricants supplied with the impeller to assist in sliding the impeller in place. Once you get the splines engaged start pushing the impeller in and slide the zip tie off. replace the pump cover o-ring.

It really doesn’t matter if the impeller arms are in the correct direction. Once the engine turns over it will automatically align them properly. Just make sure the impeller is lubricated well when installed.
