There is just something about reading some things on paper and others on a screen.

Yes, I've found that you can't roll up an iPad and stick it in your back pocket. 😉

Maybe you can't do that with an iPad but you WILL be able to do it with one of THESE.

Wow, How many boat units do I need to pick up one of those?

Has anyone been able to cross reference the regular maintenance parts such as oil and fuel filters, belts, and zincs for these engines?
AFAIK there's nothing magical about these items except the price.
Cross references can be found for some of the earlier Yanmar engines, but I think that because the BY series is fairly new it hasn't been matched to yet.
Time to start a new thread and hope everyone can stay on subject!

You can check out Wix Filters for their cross-ref engine http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/results.asp?PartNo=11930535151&Submit=Search. I checked out the prices for the oil filter for the YM and it was $2 less than Ranger and the secondary fuel filter was $2 more. They do not carry filters for the BY and JH engines. I would guess other brands of filters have a cross reference engine as well. You will have to let your fingers do the walking through Google.

According to the analysis at http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html, Wix is one of the better brands of filters .

I have not been able to find who makes filters for Yanmar. I have read in several blogs that Yanmar engines have higher operating pressures than other brand engines. I do not know if this is true or not. Just to avoid any possible warranty problems down the road, I will use Yanmar filters while my engine is under warranty. It is not worth the couple of dollars in savings on a filter to lose out on a warranty battle.

Yes, as yet Wix have no listing for the BY Series. Wix are widely regarded as being one of the highest quality filter manufacturers, and I have no doubt that if they do produce one for these engines then it will meet or exceed all the necessary requirements.

Of course, it could be that they are the OE manufacturer for the genuine Yanmar item, and if so it would hardly be surprising if they were contractually obliged not to produce an alternate product. 😉

I'm sure there's a link somewhere to the Ranger Parts Prices but I've not stumbled across it yet (it doesn't appear to linked from the Ranger home page).

Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

The price lists are located on the front page of Tugnuts.com on the left side. The parts are listed by engine model.

Found it, thanks. Pleasantly surprised to find the file opened on an iPad. 🙂

The iPad and iPhone have readers for Microsoft Office files. Hey, tomorrow the iPhone 5 will be announced !!
