I'm having a herd time getting a straight answer.... HELP !
I have a Yanmar 4BY2 diesel engine on my boat. It is attached to a Yanmar transmission the oil system is separate from the engine.
Transmission is a KHM 40. They say to use SAE 30, Class CF or higher.

As I understand it, CF is for diesel engines. But this is a transmission. I don't know why CF is specified.
All I have found around town in a straight SAE 30 is Class SL oil.
Can I use SL oil?

In the Yanmar transmission I use Shell Rotella T1 SAE 30, CF-2, CF. I bought it at Walmart. I'm sure you could find it online if not locally.

I got some stuff at West Marine. Heavy Duty 4 cycle engine oil for gas and diesel engines.
SAE 30 Class Sl
On the back label it saysExceeds Mack EO-K/2 and Allison C4 specs.....
Sounds like it is ok????

Yup, thanks.
Ordered a gallon last night and it will be here tomorrow.
What a country!

Is 1 gallon enough for the transmission capacity? I've not yet changed mine for the first time. Thanks, GF

From my notes:
TRANSMISSION, ROTELLA T1 30 w 1.8 qt (57 Oz)

A gallon will do it then. Thanks Brian. GF

For future reference, I was told that the lettering on the specs run in sequence. Hence, SI would come after CF and the later letter sequence surpasses the previous.
