Mine is a 2010, RT 25-SC. Yanmar 150HP - 4BY. With the air filter removed, I spun the turbo shaft. Noticed it had detectable end play. It seemed huge, but was probably 1/8 inch. Anyway, very large for a clearance that should be barely detectable. This machine has about 2200 hours on it.

Has anyone had this experience? I'll be pulling the turbo and get the bearings/shaft secured and balanced.

The turbochargers I've known in my life (automotive) have not had this kind of deterioration at even triple the hours.

If your talking gas powered autos the exhaust runs way cooler. May want to check specs.

Blue Smoke?

This is basic garden variety Turbo...I'm an aircraft Inspector, but, a turbo charger shaft should be pretty firm and not 1/8th inch anywhere. Remember you are dealing with a lot of energy from very hot gases to very rapid spinning...

Axial End play:
Minimum: .001"
Maximum: .003"
Eccentricity:
Maximum: .0004"
Radial:
No Min/Max specified (no contact with housing allowed)

Exactly, TexasEye. That's why it's coming out. No blue smoke, but the end play is a pretty clear sign.

And yes, NorthernFocus, my automotive experience is gasoline based. But either way, I think it should spin freely and loosely, but have virtually zero play.
