I ordered new engine anodes and received 3. One has a square brass head and the other 2 are solid zinc with a thread ID counter bore.

Can you possible send me a link or a schematic revealing where these anodes are on the engine>

I believe that the brass headed anode live up near the front of the engine, near one of the pulleys for the serpentine belt.

Where do the other 2 go??

What year is your boat? Around 2015-2016 Volvo started phasing out the engine anodes. I have a 2016 Cutwater C30 with the D6-435, and the manual that came with the boat indicated that it might have one, two, or none. After some searching, I figured out that the only location I have one in is in my heat exchanger. You may want to check the latest manual /service bulletin for your engine to see if you have any. If your boat is newer than 2017, might guess is you might not have any at all.

Our 2015 R31-CB has none on the engine. Only located on the thrusters, trim tabs, propeller nut and stern.

AFAIK there are no anodes on D4, this is list for R31:
Trim Tab / Rudder Zinc (MFG-CMR03):51152
Prop Zinc (F-1 1/2" MFG-NUT ZINC-F): 215302
Transom Anode: ZHC-5R

I have a 2013 R31CB with a D4-300. I have 2 anodes. You are correct, one is at the pulley near the water pump. Your wrench will need to work around the belt, if that helps you find it, The other is on the heat exchanger on the other end of the engine (stern). It is underneath, but easy to get to. I cannot explain why you received 3. By your description, it sounds like the 2 with ID threads are replacements for the one with the square brass plug. I only bought the zinc (for me aluminum) part, and used the existing brass piece. Try to spin off the zinc piece from the brass piece, do they match?
