Any idea why the Garmin Ship to Shore radio would randomly turn itself on while docked on my cable lift? It has now happened several times now. No apparent rhyme or reason but it tends to deplete my battery if it happens to turn itself on for several days. TIA

Are you certain that it's turned off before you leave the boat? I presume you mean the VHF radio... You could pull the fuse and see if that takes care of the gremlins.

Interesting question, mine did it twice and I put it down to my not paying close attention to make sure it really was turned off. Be interesting to see if anyone else has any experience or comments about this issue.

The default setup for our Garmin VHF is that the radio turns on whenever the house power is turned on. This is a safety setting so that you don't forget to turn the radio on when you go out boating. It can be changed in the settings if you prefer that it stays off until you power it on manually.
When you go to your boat, do you turn on your house power and then go inside to find out that your radio is on? If so, this could be why.

Ah Ron, I think you have the answer! I don't turn house power off all the time. I have though while I was doing some wiring and I'll bet the radio turned on when the power was turned back on. Do you remember how to change the setting to only on when turned on? This is a real battery killer if the VHF is left on without any battery charging going on.
