Originally, I relocated my AGM batteries (before I converted to LFP).

Aaron, You’re not alone. The Universal brand batteries have given lots of your fellow boaters problems. When I replaced mine I went with Lifeline GPL-31XT AGM batteries. Not cheap: $475 ea, I also installed a Victron battery monitor shunt at the same time, so I could babysit these babies. Working well so far. One piece of advice, don’t use your house bank to heat water via the inverter. Imo it just puts too much stress on the bank.

I left mine in their original location. I liked Martin’s relocation to the center lazarette , but I use that space all the time for storage, like downriggers and pot puller.

which victron monitor did you use?

I installed Victron Super Cycle 170ah x 2 in the center lazarette. Mounted a main shutoff switch, fuse, and smartshunt right next to the House Batteries. It allowed the weight to be shifted slightly forward and in the center of the boat. I did have to re-calibrate my autoglide due to the cg change, but no big deal.

That's hilarious! My auto glide needs to be re-calibrated as well. First, it was all the "stuff" I brought along on our SE Alaska trip that made the boat significantly heavier. Then with all the prop testing I've been doing, that also affects the calibration of it. Hopefully this coming weekend I can find me some flat water.

I'm just throwing this in the mix after 8 years with the universals. I have changed them twice. They are not good starting batteries, but they are fine and very cost-effective for house batteries. Ignoring the topic of moving them around the boat. I would consider changing out the engine start battery to a different AGM but keeping the universals for the house.

I just installed an 1150CCA X2power AGM for engine start that has dramatically helped the cold engine start at anchor. The universals just wouldn't do it reliably. For house the AGM's are fine as they are designed for house loads and at $200 they are very cheap.
