I have a 2019 RT CB-31. There is a crack in the plastic housing of the engine raw water strainer that holds the metal strainer that is leaking.
Does anyone know the brand and model number of the unit? Can I buy the plastic housing separately? Has anyone with this problem tried to seal the crack with something like JB weld, etc.?
Thanks in advance

If it is the same as the 2018 it should be

Marine Hardware SEASUM-1.500 Bronze Sea Water Strainer, 1-1/2" NPT

Any chance you are referring to the raw water strainer on the starboard side? That one does have a clear plastic dome and is prone to cracking.
It supplies water to the toilet and wash down system. Fisheries Supply, MHI SEALENS-DOME replacement lens & rod.
Just checking.

If this is the raw water intake for the engine, on the 2022 R31 it looks very similar to the plastic strainer of my pool pump, I'll look tomorrow and see if there is a manufacturer name and part number. On older tugs I think they used a bronze strainer.

The one I quoted is a bronze one. It’s stamped with MH and 1.50

Thanks so much. Mine is stamped the same way. I believe that is the correct one.
BTW, I ordered one from the manufacturer, who was out of stock, but took apart a complete unit to sell me the plastic bowel with gaskets for 25% off. Very nice people!

Would someone post a photo of the bronze strainer and what year did they switch from bronze to plastic

Can you provide the flush hardware specifics installed before the strainer? I want to install similar to make it easier to flush the engine.

Also, did I read somewhere about being careful when flushing with this hardware to avoid flooding the engine when not operating?

Thanks!

Mike

I have a write-up here about the flush hardware

I actually installed it after the strainer. This causes it to backflush the strainer as well, and I've never needed to clean it, besides that one time it got really fouled outside of Kingston while trolling for fish 🙂

I walk through the steps I follow to make sure you don't flood your exhaust lifter, however as I also called out the pressure has never been enough for the water to spin the impeller and allow water to fill the exhaust lifter without the engine running.
