Looking for feedback on this upcoming 3 week trip to the Broughtons. Our schedule is semi-flexible to account for unfavorable weather. It’s our first trip up there.
So, am I missing anything spectacular? (eg I’d like to add Lacey Falls if it’s not too far out of the way.) Anything else?
Do I have something here that’s not worth the time or trouble?
Appreciate the feedback!

Today was Day 2 of our Broughton trip.
Yesterday was a 550 mile, 11 hour drive from Ashland, OR to pick up the boat in Burlington, unload all our gear off the truck and spend the night on the boat at an I-5 rest stop just south of Bellingham. Unbelievable heavy rain on the drive up south of Olympia.
Today we launched at Squalicum Harbor in Bellingham so I could some work on the trailer bunks. We organized the boat food and gear on the boat for the next 18 days. This afternoon its boat back on trailer, tow to a I-5 rest stop near Blaine and dinner on the boat.
Tomorrow will be a long day with a planned 7:30 AM border crossing at Blaine using the commercial truck lanes, a BC ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo and then the 230 mile drive up Highway 19 to Port McNeill.

Beautiful day at Alert Bay. Yesterday launch and provision at Port McNeill and tomorrow off to Sullivan Bay. Many, many sea otters spotted today.

No bears likely to be seen at Glendale Cove this time of year. They are off the coastline eating berries or salmon this time of year. We were there 16-17 August 2024.

So glad to see another Oregonian trailering to Vancouver Island! We just did the same travel (with a C28) from Sisters to Campbell River then into the Broughtons from there. If you’re into anchoring we’d recommend Maltipi, Bond Sound, and the area just outside Potts Lagoon. If you get a chance to have dinner at Sullivan Bay bring your appetite! But it’s great. if You want to connect when you return we can share ideas about trailering. Would you be interested in another trip up north next year??

Also, I forgot to mention dinner at Nimpkish Restaurant at Alert bay. Pemba does a wonderful job at feeding you and her employees are top notch.

Darn, we missed that! Had dinner on the boat. Next time.

Glad this place was on our visit list. Very rustic but also very cool vibe. Nice friendly caretaker. Reminds you that you are far away from typical Broughton resort marinas! Jennis Bay Floats in Drury Inlet.IMG_6287.jpeg

I’m really enjoying these updates! Keep posting them!

quick question: are you getting cell phone coverage up there or do you have a Starlink on board?
Thanks! Rain yesterday afternoon (0.44” actual) and wind+rain today (1.1” forecast) so we came back to Sullivan Bay to ride it out.
Cell service in Port McNeill. WiFi and spotty cell service in Alert Bay. Free Starlink service included with moorage in Sullivan Bay and at Jennis Bay Floats.
Uber service for float home owners at Sullivan Bay.

Glad you two are enjoying this trip! All special memories! glad you got to spend some time with Billy Proctor. We have all his books.

Been a busy and fun week since my last report. Fog in the mornings and after 7 PM but no more rain. Spent the nights in Goat Island Anchorage on Crease Island, New Vancouver, Potts Lagoon, Telegraph Cove, Joe Cove and Lagoon Cove. Tomorrow back to Port McNeill.
Today we say a single porposeIMG_6364.jpeg, and 8 humpback whales while crossing Blackfish Sound.
On this trip only viewed two black bears and two bald eagles. No grizzlies - wrong time of year we were told. IMG_6384.jpegIMG_6380.jpegIMG_6373.jpeg

That sailboat in the fog photo needs to be hung on your wall at home!
