2017 R-27 classic. This is the roof in the cockpit above the door. What is the stainless bracket for? It is the same bracket that holds the davits on the swim grid. Why have this mounted to the roof? It is held on with 14/20 through bolts with acorn nuts on the roof. Any thoughts? Thanks.

It is mount for a removable winch setup that came with the Weaver Davit. Mine looks like a come along with a white rope with a hook at the end that attaches to the dingy to crank it out of the water. I don’t use it as it very slow. I just run a line through one of the handles on the dingy and yank it up.

I have the winch that slides into that retention bracket. It’s ok but slow. Great tool for the Admiral to bring the dinghy to vertical on the davits by herself if that’s ever needed. Or if you owned a seriously heavy dinghy like a Portland Pudgy or such.

Yahooo! I can sleep at night! Thanks so much, that is obviously what it is. It does appear to be a bit of overkill, I just yank up the dingy as well. A small block an tackle attached to the hand hold would be a bit more elegant. Thanks again for the reply.

I have a hard time using that winch. Winching up is easy. Getting it to pay out is a chore. I’ve tried everything I can think of to make it easier. No joy.
