Has anyone replaced or covered the Vberth cushions around the bed? We have a 2011 Ranger tug and the cushions are peeling. How do you take them off? And help is appreciated.

The cushions should just lift up to detach from the hooks on the side bulkhead. After my recent partial Great Loop adventure, my cushions had the same problem with the original vinyl. After debating on just completely removing them, i chose to cut the height down and re-foam/re-cover them with sunbrella. with 1.5 inch flat foam, they are now less obtrusive into the V berth on my 2011 R27.

The items to which I think you are referring are called “bolsters”. They are the trim along the wall surrounding the cuddy cushions. The attached photo partially shows the bolsters in my 2012 R27 I had recovered a few years ago. I do not have a photo on hand of just a bolster. The bolsters in my boat hang on wide hooks that are fastened the cuddy wall. They can be easily removed by pulling up on the bolster.

I never did like the vinyl covering originally installed and I’m very happy with the velour-like fabric on them.

Don't have any pics at the moment. I cut down the height of mine from the top to about equal to the seam on Casper's Cruisers. That put the top of the bolster even with the jog on the cabin liner, giving me a bit wider shelf I'm also very happy with getting away from the vinyl. Ultimately, I'd like to add a couple of shelves on the bulkhead end of the cabin for some additional storage that won't impinge on the size/shape of the v berth.

Thanks for the info. Did you do the work or have someone else do it?

I’m not sure if your question was addressed to me, but if it was, I had the entire cuddy reconfigured by a local upholstery shop. I had them completely reupholster the bolsters with a velour-like fabric using the existing foam and then had them add an inch and a half layer of memory foam to the cuddy cushions. There was enough excess fabric on the cuddy cushions to cover the extra foam with the existing fabric. The memory foam made a world of difference in the comfort of the cuddy cushions.

I also had the shop cut one of the center cushions in half to make two smaller cushions. That provides several cuddy cushion configuration options such as using a half cushion for the base of a back rest when reading. We usually remove the half cushion at the aft end of the cuddy at night. We find the little extra leg space makes entering and exiting the cuddy easier.

If anyone reading this is considering adding memory foam to their cuddy cushions, a word of advice: Tell the shop to NOT pull the fabric down too tightly. When I first got my cushions back, I was terribly disappointed by their comfort. Then I realized that the memory foam was compressed almost flat by the fabric covering being pulled down too tightly, enough so that a quarter would bounce on the cushion.

I took the cushions back to the shop and asked them to release the fabric tension some, which they did reluctantly saying I would not like the wrinkles it would cause. Well the wrinkles are very minor and it made the cushions as comfortable as I had hoped.
