I have owned my boat (built in 2011) for only three months and I am delighted with it.

I have two questions:
1- After replacing the starting battery and a ride in windy, rough seas, my horn has stopped working. All fuses and wiring seems to be in order. Before proceeding further, has anyone had this experience and if so what is the solution?

2- I have been told that there is a radar reflector inside the faux funnel on the cabin top. Can anyone confirm this?

Many thanks,
Michael Clark

When my horn stoped working a few years ago I fixed it by spraying WD-40 and letting it soak in for a few days, sadly the fix only lasted two years and was replaced with a new one.
On my 2009 R-21EC there is a radar reflector in the smoke stack, I’m not sure what year fluid motions stoped installation.

Thanks for this. I will try the WD-40 trick.

One final question: When you replaced the horn, were you able to get underneath the cabin cover without removing the mast assembly?
Many thanks.

Mast assembly was removed, the cabin cover was unscrewed and tilted to get to the wires for the horn. You will also be able to see if you have a radar reflector.
The splicing for the horn wires is under the cover. Good luck

Thanks again for this. I was hoping there was a way to avoid removing the mast assembly but I guess not.

With the mast in the road position, remove the hinge rod, a long punch works best and slide mast forward and rest on guard rails and eyebrow and tie off with some string.
The new horns were purchased from Amazon for about $50, I was going to replace with a train horn (I thought it would be fun to have a really loud horn on a little boat, but the footprint was too big to look nice, so I went with same design.

Thanks, Bob. I thought I would have to remove the screws/bolts holding the mast in place but your suggestion would be a lot easier. I will keep you posted on how I make out. I have checked Amazon and there are a lot of choices for a new horn. I agree with your thoughts on a train horn. If it is compressor driven, that is one more item that can go wrong.

I got my horns working. It was simply a case of taking them apart, lightly sanding the contact points and a light spray of WD-40.

If anyone is interested having a 21 and want to see what is under the mast housing the radar reflector and the top here is a video I did when I reinforced my top mast on my 2014 R-21 EC.
