Every year we visit friends in Horse Head Bay near Gig Harbor Washington and anchor Red Raven in front of their house. The sunset views and friends are amazing!

Out Of Office, 2024 R-25, docked below the British Columbia Legislative Assembly on July 4. Great day and place to take dogs that are scared of fireworks!

Drop the Anchor, and Stern Tie:
In 1984 on our first trip into the Columbia River Delta we heard of this place called Warren Slough. Every year for 41 years we have visited this Anchorage, and in 1992 Celebrated the Discovery and Naming of the Columbia River 200 years earlier by Capt. Gray with a National Catalina 22 Cruise of 22 boats stopping here. Some years we had up to 15 boats and some years only 2 or three. We have been here on our Catalina 22, and our Kalik 30.
This year was special our third time on our Ranger Tug 27 "LOOKAME", and were joined by two other Ranger Tugs, "Ollie" a 27, and "Flop Along" a 29, and of course several other friends for a total fleet of 8 Boats, in this isolated spot.
We anchor and run a stern line to the Piling which I installed a chain around several years ago and call this the "Small Yacht Sailing Club of Oregon Outstation".

In June 2025, AVELLANA 2019 R29CB anchored in EUCOTT BAY, BC just off the bear beach. Picture is taken from the natural hot springs with our boat showing in the V of the rocks. For a few days there were 2 more Rangers friends in the bay.P1044531.jpeg

The park signs describe this as the most remote lock on the Rideau Canal system of 47 locks. Boats are settled for the night & awaiting lock passage in the morning. For now, it’s Moxie’s bedtime!

Sunrise at Toba Wilderness Marina (BC)
Rain and low clouds dampened our short cruise north from Desolation Sound to Toba Wilderness Marina (BC) after this year’s rendezvous. As we approached Double Island from Pryce Channel, though, the color of the water turned a surprising, milky turquoise. We learned that suspended particles from glacial silt reflect light in a way that creates the striking hue.

Under the protective cover of TWM’s cedar pavilion, we settled into an upholstered outdoor sectional and enjoyed a lava rock fire pit as we watched a passing lightning storm. At sunrise, clouds lifted and blue skies returned, revealing jagged mountaintops surrounding the marina.

Toba Wilderness Marina’s five-star hospitality and amenities rank as one our favorites in the Pacific Northwest. If you’ve not visited, this is definitely a stop to add to your bucket list!
