Looking for a boat to cruise and overnight on the Chesapeake Bay with my wife. Previous boats Grady White 282 and current boat Everglades 290 Pilot. Wondering how these boat handle the chop of the bay and which avenue would be better? I like the additional berth option on the Ranger 29, not opposed to outboards or diesel. Thanks for any help

I haven't decided either to which Ranger to get. I'm kind of stuck on the C31-CB. It has the additional berth, a diesel engine and a generator. I like the idea of a generator in case of multiple cloudy days (can you say Chesapeake Bay?) while I'm not at a dock.

I had a similar question. My 3 options were R-29S, C-30S, R-31S. I think the 3 have a similar performance on the water.

3 amazing boats, will focus on why we ended up buying the C-30S:
  • shower with enclosure [wife decision]
  • stateroom with portlights and 2 hatches [R-31 has single hatch and no portlights, my wife felt claustrophobic]
  • larger engine [my decision]

Where on the Bay are you located, we are on located between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers.

We have had an R23 and now have an R31; we love them both, and both handle well cruising on the bay. Obviously, the R31 smooths out the ride somewhat. But we upsized for the extra room, not for a smoother ride.

IMO, you will be happy with either choice I just prefer the look of the Tug.

The older 29 have gen set, and additional berth also. I want to trailer occasionally also.

I need to see them in person, I'm sure that would help
