Anyone have experience with airlock in the coolant loop? After hours at middle rpm’s, there is no hot water, and t(e cabin heater blows cold air. The isolation valves in the engine are open. I found online references to an auxiliary pump on some Volvos, but I don’t see one. Is there a way to bleed the loop?

When draining, flush and fill the fresh water cooling close off both ball valves separating the engine from the hot water heater and the bus heater loop. Remove the hoses from the valves for the Loop. Use a hand pump and two buckets. One bucket with clean fresh water the other bucket empty. Connect one hose to the pump and the other hose goes into the empty bucket. Pump water through the hose until all the anti-freeze is removed and clear water is coming out. Next step empty bucket with old antifreeze and fill it with new clean anti-freeze. Pump anti-freeze in the hose and until the second bucket is filled with the water and clean anti freeze starts to come out of the hose, reattach the hoses to the closed ball valves. When the engine flush is completed and filled with antifreeze open the valves. Using this procedure will eliminate the air lock to the hot water heater bus heater Loop.

Thanks. The boat is new to me, with a genuinely new engine, but I see how to fix it, and what to do next time.

Just an update in case I am not alone. The new engine came with an installed valve on the side of the engine for the coolant loop. The installing shop also left the inline valve in place. After opening all valves, it seems I may actually have an airlock, but good to know it is there. Perhaps applies only to newer engines.
