Just curious what setups folks have for fishing on your R23s. With no live well, I was planning to pick up a cooler to keep at my dock that I can take on an off the boat to use for bait and catch storage. Anyone crafted anything on the boat for that purpose, or any other cool fishing mods they want to share? 🙂

Fishing Setups, One thing that the Ranger Tugs lack is a place to store fish that are caught and bait to catch them. For me, using my R-27 Classic in the waters of Prince William Sound and the Cook Inlet of Alaska this is compounded by the abundant size and number of fish that can be caught. On a recent 5 day trip in Prince William Sound, three of us returned 280 pounds of filleted salmon, halibut, rockfish and ling cod to Seward for processing, that's a lot of vacuum packing! To help provide the storage and filleting capability required, I built a support platform from aluminum angle which bolts to the swim platform above the propane locker and holds a very large cooler which is secured to the aluminum frame. I also bought a filet table which bolts to the stainless handrail on the swim platform and the transom of the port aft corner of the boat. A side benefit of fishing in the tide water glacier area of Prince William Sound is that you have an endless supply of very hard and dense glacier ice floating about ready to be picked up and used for your evening gin and tonic as well as keeping your filleted fish cold. I'll send you a PM with a couple of photo's showing the cooler and filet table as I haven't mastered the ability to post photo's on this site. Bob Allan

Thanks Bob!

I'm still trying to get past "...three of us returned 280 pounds of filleted salmon, halibut, rockfish and ling cod". WOW!

I built a shelf and folding table on my R23. Store some fishing gear on shelf and use table for tackle and BBQ. See photos in my album. Temporary construction and will rebuild soon. gallery2.php?g2_itemId=66595&g2_imageViewsIndex=1
TOTALLY envious of 280 pounds of filleted fish!

Another option is an insulated fish bag. Check out Boone Monster bags which come in various sizes and are reasonably priced compared to other insulated fish bags. Just got one and I think this will solve some of my problems. Decided to try this given the desire to keep the fish slime and blood on the swim step rather than in the cockpit. However there isn't a lot of room on the swim step. These bags are light when empty, hold a lot and fold up to a compact size when not in use. I am pretty sure I, 6'4", can easily fit inside the X-large size I just got in the mail. Plan to attach mine to the swim step rails although most of the weight is on the swim step. Caught nine 10 to 12 lb silvers and one nice halibut last week and this bag would have easily held them all.

Hello, am in the process of readying a R27 for fishing in PWS. Would you be so kind as to send me your photo's?
TIA.
