Scratching my head over this arrangement. My genset has a 2 micron filter (plastic bowl) followed by a 10 micron filter (metal bowl). Did someone get things reversed in th1000017983.jpge original install?

Seems to me that you want to catch everything in the first 2 micron Filter, and the 10 micron is just in case. I used a 2 micron fuel water on my sail boat and a 10 on the final to the engine. Only changed the Fuel Water Seperator and only once the final filter in 27 years and it looked very clean.

My C28 is configured the same way as yours. 2micron to 10 micron seems to make sense (belt & suspenders).

Normally I'd think that you want to go from coarse to fine filtration but like you said, maybe the 10 is a "just in case."

Hi guys, Looks to me like the R12T filter is 10 micron and the R12S is 2 micron. Are the metal housing filters 10 micron on both boats or are they actually 2 micron? ( can’t tell from the photos). I am in the process of installing a Diesel genset now and the Next Gen calls for a 2 micron and 20-30 micron filter set up.
Thanks,
Mark

The manual refers to the 2 micron as a “secondary” filter and the 20-30 as a “primary”.

Mark - I see that my configuration is different. This is my first year with the boat so I haven’t replaced FF’s yet. I’m willing to bet the secondary is a Racor R11S, which seems to follow the general diesel fuel filtration principles.

I don’t believe Ive ever caught that recommendation you pasted from the nexgen manual.

Sadly, I need to now buy another set of generator FF’s and spares.

Nate,
I verified with our aviation fuel supplier….The larger micron (10) should be first then the 2 micron….(the theory is that the 2 micron will clog early and reduce flow rate below pump requirements…probably just a filter mix up somewhere along the maintenance history of the vessel? We are very excited to get our new diesel gen set in service….this will make our boat so much more enjoyable in the Gulf Coast summer! We removed the gasoline powered beast! (Loathed that thing) Thanks for post, it really helped me out while finalizing our install….(I tend to question everything in my effort to always be learning)
