Bought 2nd set of batteries from Battery Systems Seattle, Centennials, less than 2 years ago. A month ago I noticed the charger fan had been running a lot and a gas smell and the forward house battery was smoking and very hot, I removed it and bolted its terminal wires together. within 2 weeks the 2nd house battery did the same thing. Turned shore power off and took the set of batteries to Battery Systems and they replaced the set no charge with Continentals. The new batteries are warrantied until 9/27/2025
Should I be worried that the charger is not OK?

If a different type of battery was installed (AGM, deep cycle, etc.), it could cause this issue—especially if the charger settings weren’t updated to match. It’s also possible that the charger itself is starting to fail. Even if the settings appear correct, a malfunctioning charger can still cause problems like overcharging or overheating.

Thanks for the info. Battery Systems in Seattle did replace all 4 under the warranty from the 2nd set, that got hot, and I got them about a 1.5 years ago. The original , 2nd and 3 sets all have been the flooded type so I did not change any of the charger settings. I did get a battery temperature sensor kit for my Kisae charger and was wondering if I could get it installed at the upcoming Roche Harbor rendezvous along with a new charger? The charger now seems to be working OK but would that be your suggestion to replace it? I'm leaning towards getting a new one. Paul Solie

We are not going to do installs Roche Harbor Rendezous. If want it installed its better to have someone do it before the Rendezous. It wouldn't hurt to replace it as your boat is a 2016.
