Could someone rcommend a brand and type of outboard motor mount for a Ranger Tug R23? I expect to mount a 6 or 9.9 hp Yamaha.

I submitted the question how to remove that plastic plate on the port side swim platform where the kicker engine mount would be located but got no information back from anyone. I ended up getting a small Honda 2.3 for my inflatable (no trolling or emergancy use) that have on a rail-mount above the swim platform. This works well for me and meets my needs. I know the mount would support a 6 or 9.9 but the shafts on those larger outboards might be too long and might hit the swim platform.

I wondered about that plate and assumed it was intended either as a motor mount itself or a place to install a mount, but haven't seen anything on that.

I have opened that plate on the swim step but am not at my boat to confirm how. I think it is screwed in from below. Inside, there is a small depression that allows the kicker mount to get secure. I was noticing my kicker mount moving and found the bolts to be loose.

If you want to mount a small motor for a dinghy, I added a rail and mount to my swim step. See picture.

Thanks. I'm just wondering what that depression and covering plate is for other than strengthening the area to bolt the mount over it.

I think it is for installation of the kicker mount, then having a flat surface on the swim step.

Thanks again. I ordered the Bolton mount, so I'll see more when I install it.

You install your motor mount perpendicular to the swim platform. Bolts through. Secure nuts inside the swim step plate.

Early model R23's have a different swim platform. For those, FM provides a Bolton motor mount.

Hamster, how is that plate removed from the swim platform to access the nuts? Is it those two phillips head screw/bolt heads shown? Thanks.

The plates are attached by screws accessible under the swim deck. Your setup looks like it didn't have the removeable plate. I did order the Bolton setup that you have. What I'm not sure of is whether the bolts holding the mount go completely through the well the plate covers (see photo).
