I wondered about that plate and assumed it was intended either as a motor mount itself or a place to install a mount, but haven't seen anything on that.I submitted the question how to remove that plastic plate on the port side swim platform where the kicker engine mount would be located but got no information back from anyone. I ended up getting a small Honda 2.3 for my inflatable (no trolling or emergancy use) that have on a rail-mount above the swim platform. This works well for me and meets my needs. I know the mount would support a 6 or 9.9 but the shafts on those larger outboards might be too long and might hit the swim platform.
Thanks. I'm just wondering what that depression and covering plate is for other than strengthening the area to bolt the mount over it.I have opened that plate on the swim step but am not at my boat to confirm how. I think it is screwed in from below. Inside, there is a small depression that allows the kicker mount to get secure. I was noticing my kicker mount moving and found the bolts to be loose.
If you want to mount a small motor for a dinghy, I added a rail and mount to my swim step. See picture.

I think it is for installation of the kicker mount, then having a flat surface on the swim step.Thanks. I'm just wondering what that depression and covering plate is for other than strengthening the area to bolt the mount over it.
