Hi Steve,
Volvo Penta’s own manuals don’t give a single exact oil‑pressure number, but they do define what’s considered normal and when the ECU starts to worry.
What Volvo says about normal oil pressure:
- The D4/D6 fault‑tracing section states that normal oil pressure at hot idle is 200–300 kPa (29–43.5 psi). If it drops below the engine‑protection threshold, you get a low‑pressure alarm.
- In the VODIA logging table, “Engine oil pressure” is defined with a working range 0–879 kPa (0–127.5 psi) and a normal sensor value up to 700 kPa (≈101.5 psi).
- The D4/D6 operator’s manual gives typical hot‑engine values as about 125 kPa (18 psi) at idle and ≈440 kPa (64 psi) at full speed for D4/D6 engines, which matches what’s in my checklist for the D6‑435.
- Alarm thresholds are set so that anything like <40 psi at cruise or >120 psi is abnormal and needs investigation
Hope it helps. Like Mastercraft said, go enjoy your boat!!!
Best,
Alex
