100 Hour Service - 2019 R27 OB

Yeah, the water was definitely brown that day. Even on the drive to the marina, just looking out over the water, we both commented how weird the water color looked. Not great for underwater filming at all!

I am placing my PartsVu order tomorrow for many of the items on the spreadsheet (adapted for R23/F200) so I will record all of the part numbers. I will ping you directly to figure out how to share the spreadsheet and then I can update it with the pertinent numbers.

Would love to meet up and compare notes. But until I get my garboard drain installed, our Salty Lass can't do the one thing that is required of all boats - stay afloat!

Hey Martin,

Have you done your 300 hr service? I just ordered all the parts to do this service. I used your handy list and order all the kits and parts from parts house you recommended. They claim to have everything in stock. Did you have any of the torque specs for all the bolts and spark plugs? I’m going to order the service manual tomorrow. Need to call and add it to the order. How did it go replacing all the anodes. Did you find the ones mentioned above under the thermostats?

I created a spreadsheet to make things easier for me on the maintenance of the Yamaha F300. Maybe this helps someone out and saves you some time. I published it as a pdf here and cut out the pricing section of my spreadsheet. Prices are subject to change and depends on where you're buying your parts from. This is mainly for someone who's a DIY like myself.

As with anything, maintenance depends on your usage. We run Channel Surfing a lot, so I'm looking for a Nascar type pitstop schedule. As an example: The service manual calls for the F300 crankcase anodes to be checked every 100 hours (replace if necessary), but says to actually replace them at 500 hours. Reading other Yamaha forums, folks who wait until 500 hours (and at least 5 years worth of time) report the anodes are inseparable from the anode assembly. This means you end replacing the entire assembly (not a big deal unless you didn't plan on it and need to go order the assemblies). The anodes are about $100. If you have to replace them with the assemblies it doubles the cost. I plan on just replacing ours at 300 hours.

I can't upload Excel spreadsheets here. Apparently, pdf's aren't well liked either (that link goes to a pdf in my photo album). Being the public forum that Tugnuts is, and being as rampant as malware is these days, I don't fault the technology. I'll add pdf's to the list of things I will no longer publish to Tugnuts.

Send me an email and I'll send you the excel spreadsheet that i put together for the F300, T9.9 and F2.5 Yamaha outboards.

Sent you a PM on this RT site. Thanks. 🙂

Interesting I was able to download the files.

I'll send you an email with a plethora of additional info on this. The service manual is direct from Yamaha Pub's. They don't print it until you order it.

In our Spa day video from August 2021, that was the 300 hour maintenance. I ended up not needing to replace the crankcase anodes. They looked nearly new.

Martin, as usual you are a wealth of information and a model of organization! My 2018 27OB has a Suzuki engine, and there's one significant additional item. The Suzuki throttle and shift mechanism is fly-by-wire, so there is a solenoid at the engine that shifts F-N-R. That device is not very strong and attracts salt and other crusties, causing it to stop working. (I was very glad to have a trolling motor last January when this happened to us!) It's worth the effort every year to clean and lube the shaft and bushing!

Thanks!
We've been working on publishing a website for the past month. Probably still a couple weeks out. But it gives me one place to put a write-up, parts list, photo gallery, and links to our YouTube videos. Sections on upgrades, cruising destinations, and great boating tips/ideas for add-on's.

Additional information about what I do for the Yamaha routine maintenance can be found on our new website.

The Yamaha section has links to our video's, as well as a technical write-up as to where I get parts from, the spreadsheet I use for maintenance, how to identify the specific engine you have and how to look up parts for it. Also has a summary as to what's involved with performing routine maintenance on the Yamaha F300 and T9.9.
