If on 110 AC shore power can I switch on my refrigerator to 12 DC without running down the batteries?

In other words, does the recharging of the batteries take place while on shore power?

As long as your charger is on, the answer is yes.

With the Battery charger breaker flipped to ON and shore power connected with its breaker switch flipped to ON the refrigerator can be run and batteries will be charged or kept charged. I do this every time I'm on shore power.
