120V Issue

2019 RT 29CB, LE package. Purchase used in May 2020.

Have steady consistent 120V on AC Main Panel 2 on both shore power and generator. Able to run air conditioners, no problem.

Two nights ago, I come back from an outing and noticed that the 120V on Main Panel 1 kept coming on and off sporadically. I switched the power cables and had the same issue. On both shore and generator power. The power meter needle reflected that. I did a little trouble shooting but will go back tonight as I wasn’t fully equipped. I did use the inverter to run the microwave for 3 min total while on the boat.

I was hoping for some help to get me a jump start as the wiring diagram doesn’t have the 120V side.

1) Where does the shore power go to first? I am assuming to the switch that allows you to selected Shore/Off/Generator power. Is that accurate?

2) where does it go to second? Assume I am accurate in #1), for the AC Main 1, does that go to the inverter/charger and then to the AC Main 1 30A circuit breaker, and then to the individual circuits? Does the second line go to the AC Main 2 30A circuit bypassing the inverter/charger all together?

If assumptions above are all correct, is the likely culprit the inverter/charger? For those that replaced their, did you put in the same brand Kisae or another brand and why?

Got to the boat tonight and found the root cause.

FWIW,

Shore power goes to the AC Main 1 breaker first, then to the inverter.

Found that I had power into the inverter but nothing coming out.

Checked fuse on inverter but it was not blown.

Bypassed the inverter by connecting the two wires together so I would have AC for my interior outlets.

Ran a 5A charger to the batteries so they will stay charged while I am ordering a new inverter/charger.

Not sure which one I want to get as it’s pretty disappointing that the Kisae died in less than 3yrs of service.

Anyone replace it with a different brand? If so, which one?

I can't speak from personal experience. Xantrex seems to have a good reputation and swapping out should be easy. You may have to fish a new wire for the remote switch though.

I was set on purchasing a Magnum Magna-Sine 2800 inverter/charger but could not find any in stock anywhere, and they are on a long backorder. While not thrilled, I was going to go back to the Kisae but got ahold of a very knowledgeable wholesaler who had excellent feedback on the Xantrex which also had a 2 yr vs. 1 yr warranty, and they had it in stock.

In the end, we'll see but these supply chain disruptions are frustrating!

One good thing I like about the xantex is that you can program the transfer switch to not engage automatically if shore power should go out. I like this feature because many a battery bank has gotten ruined when the power went out and the inverter went on automatically.

Agreed with knotflying that is a good idea to have inverter go off in case of shore power loss. I imagine it depends on the model, but with the Kisae combo inverter/charger it is possible to set that: it is the “In0” mode (see manual on how to set that and note that the key sequence and timing must be followed *exactly* or it won’t set).
