After just under 600 hours of conservative operation at about 70% at displacement speeds, my transmission failed and left me stuck mid-cruise. It will not shift into either forward or reverse gear from neutral. Sometimes it will shift with an ugly clunk after a significant increase in RPM. Now I am getting slipping in gear - RPM's up, but no prop speed increase. It transpired over 3 days, progressively getting worse. ATF is full. Cleaning the filter reveals a significant amount of metal shards and bits in the filter. A clean filter doesn't fix the issue. Evidently the transmission is eating itself up and providing insufficient hydraulic pressure to the clutch, or the clutch is shot, likely defective from day 1. Of course my 5 year warranty expired 2 years ago.

Anyone else run into this issue? What's happening? Still not sure on the rebuild vs replace scenario, but hard to do so without a replacement option.

After 4 days of searching, 2 Volvo service centers can't source a new HS63AE-C transmission (mates with the D4-260I - F engine). Does this make sense??? What kind of "support" is that from Volvo?? ZF makes this for Volvo, but the Volvo version is slightly different than a ZF version. Anyone have a line on a new or good used tranny?

Cutwater, you still buy from Volvo I assume. Your new parts "partner" won't tell me anything on the phone, have to use the website. I search their site for the Volvo part # and cupholders come back. Can you help here?

Good news is the Volvo Service center in NY located a new transmission - in Sweden - 3-4 weeks lead time, and $300 extra shipping. So I'm still looking for a good used one.

Anyone else suffer this type of failure?
