Good Morning,

I live in the high desert and I have noticed a 2009 R29 in the same spot sitting on a trailer for a few years now. I stopped and talked to the owner over the winter and he was kind enough for me to go into the yard and walk around it. I noticed it has not been registered for a few years and the cover had been blown off and was laying on the ground. I did not climb aboard. The owner said it was not for sale but I intend to go back and talk to him again. So my question what are areas of concern for this boat? I would assume at a very minimum the fuel system from the cap to the injectors would need attention. Is this just a walk away boat?

Definitely not a walk-away. Fiberglass and steel last a long time. The fuel system and batteries will need attention as already mentioned, also any rubber parts like impellers and hoses.
If you can get a good price with a few thousand left over for refurbishing, it could be a diamond in the rough.

also seat fabrics and wood interior may be faded but recoverable

Thanks for the replies everyone. Do the earlier models have any areas of concern?

Bought a 2009 R25 classic that had been sitting on her trailer for 2.5 years under a pine tree. Expect LOTS of cleaning and polishing, 4 new batteries and a new impeller. For the fuel system, I got away with new primary and secondary fuel filters, a quart of diesel conditioner/c tain booster and pressing up the tank with 25 gallons of fresh fuel.
The marine toilet seals were dried out, ended up replacing the entire unit with a Jabsco twist lock. The exterior teak doors for the transom were in very poor shape, so I just replaced the whole thing with a new single hatch made of starboard- makes reaching the Y valve and lubing the rudder easier as well. I have a new bimini ordered from king canvas.
Fixed a few water leaks in on the freshwater system as well. Trailer tires look great, but they have aged out and should probably be replaced. Its been a bit of a project, but I should be on the way to Desolation Sound in a couple weeks.

If you can get a decent price, it would probably be a great deal- there is a reason the airlines store their extra planes in the desert southwest- minimal corrosion. Good Luck!

Thanks again everyone. I do not know if the boat was ever in Sequim. Currently its a long way from there.

If you can get the boat at the right price it could be a bargain. I bought my 2012 21EC for 50% the going rate because the owner had totally lost interest. Left it in salt water. Covered with barnacles. Bird and critter poop all over it. No records or paperwork of maintenance or anything. A real mess. All the cushions etc stored in cabin. But it had only done 170 hours but had some amazing extras. However these boats are almost bullet proof. Lots of hard work (fun) and I have the boat back to almost new condition. All the maintenance things have to be done anyway. And you will learn a lot along the way. Lots of work needed on the trailer since it had done many miles with little maintenance. But at the right price you can get an amazing boat as good as new or even better! Tugnuts has been amazing in helping getting it up and running. Enjoy the journey!
