2010 R25SC Thruster

Hi Ranger folks-
I went out to have this year's shake down cruise. I've had the boat indoors in rack storage since November. I had a few problems today and I'd like to get some troubleshooting advice.

-The thrusters turned on at the panel (lights indicated "on") but did not work.
-I could not get the Inverter to turn on
-there was therefore no ac power for the boat.

Regarding thrusters, I have changed fuses before so I checked those out and they still looked new. I pulled the inverter manual out and it says that if the light wasn't one, then turn it on. No kidding 🙁. It seemed like it wasn't getting power at all.
Nothing looked too badly corroded since I last had the boat out in the fall.

Any ideas or a sequence I could go through to problem solve this? I ended up not leaving the dock today though the engine got to idle for a while when I was poking ariund the electrical area.

I would appreciate any of the vast experince available on the forum.

Hey there Mike,

Since the thrusters and inverter strictly rely on battery power, that would be my first inspection to make sure all batteries have a good charge. If the batteries have been removed or altered, I would have a good look at the wiring to make sure everything is back in place. The next step is to check actual voltage at the thruster motor itself.

What kind of inverter do you have installed?

I have the Xantrex PRO Inverter installed.

By the way the batteries are 2014 AGM's. The engine turned easily after sitting with power off since November.

Hey there Mike,

If it's a Xantrex inverter in your 25, it would not be a factory installed unit. One thing you might check is some of these inverters have a breaker on them that can trip if overloaded. Sorry I can't be of more help on this issue.

Andrew, can you tell me what brand name and size you would have used on a 2010 25SC? Also, can you describe how the sequencing works between the battery, engine alternator and inverter..

Based on your earlier comments, I may not have this sequencing correct. Let me run this oast you... I was thinking that the battery bank starts the engine. Once started, the alternator charges the batteries which power the inverter. The inverter provides the AC power to the operating units.

Alos, It sounds like the issue I am having with the inverter is not related to the thrusters as they run off of a battery, per your earlier email. So Am I really have two separate issues, Andrew?
