2010 R29 Yanmar 260 two dipsticks?

Just changed the oil on the Yanmar, the dipstick on the starboard side doesnt show any oil.
The dipstick on the Port side does.
I refilled the oil two days ago and havent started the engine yet.

I also cannot find any documentaion about the starboard dipstick, anyone have suggestions?
 
The starboard dipstick is really only useful as a crankcase access point during drawing out oil on an oil change. The port side dipstick is the one generally used to check the oil level. However, on my 4BY180, the two sticks yield the same oil level reading. Is the starboard stick full pressed into place? This stick is not easy to see and is awkward to reach. Sorry for saying the obvious but you did pull the port side stick twice with a wipe between checks? Did you keep track of the amount of oil added during the change and compare this amount with the crankcase capacity specification? One needs the "Goldilocks" amount - not too little and not too much.

R. Baker, based on the date you joined the "Nuts", I expect your R29 has a Volvo engine. The older Ranger mostly have a Yanmar (BMW) engine. The 4BY series do indeed have both port and starboard crankcase dipsticks. The starboard dipstick is located below the cooling water heat exchanger. In this location one has to look carefully in order to locate the stick. Due to limited vision it can be particularly awkward to reinsert the stick into its post(hole).
 
Osprey, sorry, my comment was meant to be a bit of fun. In fact I too have two dipsticks - that lower one is a bit hard for my old bones to regularly access; but it does show the same oil level.
 
Okay, R.B., just a bit of fun. I expect you folks back in ON are still snow bound and perhaps suffering from cabin fever. As to old bones, mine are 76 - have you got years on me? 😉
