I have an 2012 R25. There is a hose bib (female) in the corner of the cockpit under the speaker next to the swim platform door. I have asked other R25 owners but, this feature is not on the later models of the R25. Does anyone know the purpose of this hose bib? I am in the process of winteriziing the fresh water system was not sure what to do with this hose bib.

Thanks

I would think it’s the raw water wash down.

Hi Dick,

I agree. I don't have info dating back that far, but also assume that it's the washdown fitting. If it looks like this

then that would definitely be it. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ralf

Thinking back to junior high school "Health class" I would say that is a male fitting.

Follow the attached hose. If it teed into one of the hoses coming off the strainer it could have been added so that antifreeze can be fed to the strainer (with the seacock closed and the strainer cover left in place) to winterize. I have a similar add-on in my R25, (actually one on the strainer and another on the generator water feed) but the connection (female hose thread) was left below the deck. It must be plugged or valved off for normal operation.

Possibly a fresh water engine flush. I have heard that there are a number of guys that do that at the end of the day.

I have a 2012 C26 so it may be similar. In mine it is to flush the engine. Unfortunately it also floods the head because they both use the same strainer. I will be putting a shut off valve in the line to the head so I can flush the engine.

Thank for your replies. I think the fresh water engine flush is the most likely candidate. This model has a has a female hose bib on the starboard side under the fresh water fill for hooking up to a fresh water hose (city water hookup) and I have been warned to never used it for risk over presurizing the water system and blowing out a water line or connector.
I will walk down to the boat as soon as the wind chill gets above freezing and see if I can trace the line to the multiport strainer.
Thanks again for the guidance.

We had the same hose bib on our 2013 R25, except it was mounted on the starboard side of the aft cockpit seat. It looked exactly like the picture in Ralf's post above, except there is an off/on switch beside it. It is a raw water washdown hose bib. There is a pump in the aft engine compartment area that feeds from a hose out of the seawater strainer.

Just a rule-of-thumb for hose fittings, male fittings supply water, female fittings accept water.
Kinda like hot water on left and cold water on right. Hope this helps! Bob
