I have an on going issue with the starboard cockpit locker not draining properly. I removed the Trim Tab pump/reservoir to access the drain cover at the back. It was not blocked and I removed the cover. I was able to push a 1/4 tube about 3ft into the drain. When I blew in it, I could hear bubbles come up fro behind the hot water tank. I then accessed the back compartment, starboard side and noticed that the weep hole was dry. I was able to push the 1/4 tube about 1 foot into this hole. when I blew through the tube it appeared dry. How is the connection made from the locker drain to the lower weep hole? Any insight on how this could be remedied would be appreciated.

I had this issue on my 2010 R-25. At times I found at least 2" of water sitting in the base of the locker.

What I found was that the seep hole at the aft end of the starboard locker would occasionally get blocked from residue left around during the boat factory assembly. This residue consisted of fine bits of debris that would over time find their way into the seep hole and cause water flow restriction to the aft bilge area. I used a straightened wire cloth hanger to run it into the seep hole to clear out the small bits of debris. This did the trick. After maybe 2 years the issue stopped arising as presumably all the fine bits of debris had been removed and washed out. In addition I also used a sponge to soak up any water in the aft bilge under the prop shaft to remove any of the debris from clogging the pump pickup filter.

My advice is to check that seep hole for proper draining at the aft locker location all the way through to the bilge area with the wire.

This issue and the fix was first brought to my attention by Andrew Custis.... so credit goes to Andrew. 🙂

I have inserted a tube into the weep hole about a foot. All is dry there and there seems to be no connection between the locker drain and the weep hole.

The scuppers drain into corners and then go overboard via gravity. If scupper drain holes get overwhelmed causing water to overflow the scuppers and into the locker then the aft weep hole allows that water to drain into the aft bilge from which it gets pumped out.

I know how the water gets there - I just can't drain it - I have to use a manual pump to dry the locker after heavy rain or heavy seas. I had to re-locate the battery charger and inverter after both being damaged from this water. I'm wondering of I can cut a 3" hole in the locker floor at the back to see what is going on.

This is something I have been tackling since we bought the boat. As the boat is in a boathouse the rain is not an issue. For us the pressure relief valve was doing its job and letting the water volume in the HW tank adjust as it heated up, either from the electric heater or from running the engine. The aft hole back under the shelf in the locker was blocked with the previously mentioned manufacturing debris but when that hole was cleared the water ran back under the shelf. I then cleared the hole in the engine compartment that allowed for draining into the main bilge area. This hole is not at the bottom of the locker and some water is always remaining, mirroring your problem. I solved my issue by piping off pressure relief valve outlet and into a container which I empty periodically. The water under the shelf flowed back to where the transducer is located when I sucked it out with a shop vac. I guess I got out a couple of liters but that may be bad memory. The residual I dried out with a sponge. I just didn't want stagnant water down there.

Check both the drain holes and then let your shop vac do its thing.

I have tried the shop vac multiple times without any success - it just will not drain. This is definitely the Achilles heel of this boat.

I use a soaker type squirt gun...99cent store. Its about 30 inches long and an inch or so in diameter and I can reach in and suck water in and shoot it overboard. Stored in the engine compartment tucked into the strap for the holding tank.

My starboard cockpit locker does drain but very slowly. This thread made me look into the problem with my endoscope camera. Here is a photo of the problem. Sorry that I was unable to get the image centered.

It appears the weep hole runs straight through a tube under the locker floor until it hits a fiberglass wall. I assume behind the wall is a channel that the drain at the aft end of the locker drains into. The hole is clearly not a clean hole and not very big. I can imagine it getting plugged easily or potentially not even punched through completely on other boats. I suspect this may be the case for walt2.

My next step is to see if I can (very carefully) drill it out making sure not to go through something I shouldn't.
