Well guys, my problem started in August 2017. Low oil pressure warning alarm on my Yanmar on all gauges and aural alarm. Ranger says it needs a firmware update. Sent the part in over the winter and got back from Ranger, alarm still sounding and we have oil pressure. Checked all wiring runs and verified installation with Ranger. Everything OK and not fixed. Go to replace sender and there are five different units for this engine year. Mechanic tries to talk to Yarmar and get schematic because Ranger is out of ideas. Yanmar doesn't want to share because mechanic is not Yanmar. So, here I sit with a full tank of fuel from 2017 and it's going on Sept 2018 and season is over in a month!

Ah, the joys of owning a Yanmar and trying to obtain competent service or assistance from Yanmar! I think the Service Bulletin that relates to your challenge is YASA2014-005-M. The bulletin calls for two items, one is the firmware update and the second item is moving the ground wire on the Telex module to another location. If you can't locate the bulletin by a Google search or a Tugnuts search I will see if I can find it for you.

I just bought a 25 with a Yanmar engine and the v1.0 module. I tried to get Yanmar to update it and they refused, they said the bulletin is closed out and if I don't have a problem, don't worry about! If they know they corrected a known problem through a firmware update why won't they do it for mine? I don't have any issues now with oil pressure but I suspect the gauge reads higher than reality. I live in hope it doesn't give me grief because Yanmar apparently isn't going to be much help. If your module has been updated moving the ground to the new location per Yanmar's instructions should fix it for you.

My two cents on this as well, having lived through the low oil pressure saga on our 27. Step 1--and this does not always solve the problem--is to vastly improve the engine ground. Start by experimenting with different locations for the ground cable, even considering adding a separate ground cable. Sometimes it is as simple as just cleaning up the engine ground. If you search this forum, you will see lots of comments on this.

And polite persistence pays with Yanmar and their office in Georgia. Again, search this forum and you will even find phone numbers.

Hopefully you can get this resolved properly. I don't see why you can't order a new sending unit from an authorized Yanmar dealer if the sending unit is the issue. The grounding is very important on the Yanmar, If all else fails put in a mechanical gauge. Sometimes going around the problem is the simplest.

Is it the part number for the sender that you need?

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the suggestions. My mechanic has done all of the above. We're now trying to get the nearest Yanmar dealer to work with us and see if the firmware update is actually working. I can't see putting a mechanical gauge on a $100,000 plus boat with an electronic system. Murphy's law say that eventually the electronic side says," hmmm no oil pressure, shut off the engine "
