2012 Ranger Tug Rendezvous in Essex, CT

It would be nice to have a systems and maintenance review. As an example I never realized that the air conditioner needed a "scaling" until an a/c mechanic mentioned it to me during a service call.

Following on Howard and Deb's comment about the presentations, I think if there is going to be a demo of fire extinguishers, it would be good to have a practical on dry chemical. most of us probably have this type on the boat and might benefit from seeing one of them work. For sure, they are a mess to clean up!

I'm constantly amazed at the different smart phone and PC apps people are using. Maybe we could have a session where participants share their technology favorites? That's if we can keep Mike and Howard talking regular English.

Ted,

That is a great idea. I use an iPad on "Little Debbie" and also have a couple of apps on my iPhone. Hopefully the Garmin marine app will be available before the rendezvous, I am looking forward to trying it.

Howard

Mon Petit Chou-Chou will hopefully have good seas in August and be able to cruise to the event from the Cape as we did last year. I hope by the time of the event we will be able to have other Tugs cruise with us.

John,

This is a good idea. We could meet up with you in the vicinity of Pt. Judith. We will have to coordinate this when the date gets closer. Hopefully others can join.

Howard

Please count us in for the cruise to Essex. Meeting up at Pt. Judith is a good idea. Kit and Ginny

Hi Carol and Mike,

Thank you for working on this, the topic has been quiet for a while.

I would like to have a live flare demonstration and practice session. We did a fire extinguisher session last year that was very good. I would like to have some experience with flares in a non emergency setting!

For the Garmin session it would be good to have a rep demonstrate the upcoming Garmin marine iPad app and how it is linked to the chartplotter.

For breakfasts some bagels, etc. would be fine for me.

We could have a "boat crawl" hour for those who want to open their tugs for others to see. It is always nice to see mods/improvements done by others.

Maybe someone from TowBoatUS or Seatow could do a presentation about towing.

At TrawlerFest in Baltimore last year I attended a safety presentation by Henry Marx, President of Landfall Navigation. This is a CT company and he said he would like to come to our rendezvous if we are interested. At TrawlerFest he had an assorment of PFDs, EPIRBs, PLBs, and other safety/emergency items and did an interesting presentation. Maybe he could help with a flare demonstration?

Carol and Mike,

Do you have a schedule of events for the rendezvous? I have not made a reservation at Essex Island Marina yet, is there anything I need to tell them other than it is for the Ranger Tugs Rendezvous?

Hi Toni,

Congratulations on your new Tug and welcome to TugNuts! Were you at the rendezvous last year looking at tugs?

Thanks,
Howard

We are hoping to finalize the agenda this week. When you make your reservations at Essex just let them know you are with the Rendezvous
