In the next few months I will be investigating the possibility of purchasing a classic R29. I am thinking of going with the 2013 or 2014 model year. I see that one difference is that the engine was switched from a Yanmar to a Volvo. Any input on which engine is better from a maintenance/noise/reliability standpoint?

Does anyone who owns/owned either of these model years have any thoughts or ideas between the two model years? I am planning to do the Great Loop, and a "must have" for me is air conditioning.

Thanks for any feedback.

My 2013 R29 has the Volvo 260 D4 which has been trouble free for over 700 hours. I believe the 2012 R29 was the last model to have the Yanmar

I really don't think engine model is an issue, both companies have good reputations. What is more important is if the engine was well maintained. Then if you don't service your engine yourself see what facilities are in your area and how good they are, how familiar they are with the particular engine and how easily you can get parts and the cost of the parts.

Thanks for the responses! Beyond different engines, any thoughts on things I should be looking at in the different model years?

Thanks.
