The factory installed (I believe) cockpit engine monitor is a monochome display that is difficult to read if there is any glare on the screen. I have maximized the Contrast and Light Intensity without improvement.

Had anyone replaced this unit with a new model that is easy to read?

Thanks,
Brian

I am going to ask a hard question. I think your engine uses J1939 protocol. Does It? If so you can use a NMEA2k gateway to display engine info to NMEA2k gauges or a GPS unit. Worth looking into.

As in https://www.simrad-yachting.com/simrad/ ... tal-gauge/ Garmin has it gauges to. The only problem I see that these devices will display info, tech, volts, .............. But not to input data.

Hella makes a map light which comes in two styles, one with a 12 volt plug on the end which plugs right into the socket close to the display. The other version can be screwed to the panel and hardwired. I have the version with the plug on the end and it works well, a light shining at the dim Yanmar display makes it very readable, try it yourself with a small flashlight. If I were to do it again I would buy the hard wired version of Hella's map light but the one with a plug works very well too. With a light facing the display I can read it with no problem. Google Hella map light, if you can't find it PM me and I will find a link for you.

Thanks, so much, for the guidance. I will do some research on what protocol my engine uses. I think I will be able to get that from the Ranger folks.

Concerning the accessory light I see that the flashlight trial works well. The Hella light is certainly a more cost-effective option.

I made a one inch wedge from black starboard that raised the bottom of the screen, better viewing angle.
