I am finalizing the purchase of a 2013 R27. Trial run found no cool air from the A/C . Yard now says the unit/system must be replaced with new. Owner never really used the A/C.

Can you please tell me what brand would have been originally installed by the factory and where to purchase it? Also it never had a generator, so I am thinking of adding a diesel one, like original.
What are the specs. on this & sources?

I have a 2013 c28. they probably used same ac mine is a marine air 16k. The generator is going to be a little harder as the c28 used a Mase i think 2.3 kw. but they no longer make this model and in the later years Fluid motion put in a nextgen unit. this gen was physically larger than the Mase and had to be moved to a new location on the boat. I'm sure the ranger guys will chime in. Because you need a new ac and want power to run it, I would also look at a new ac that has a soft start and a lith ion battery pack to run it. Just more things to consider.

On my 2018 C24 the AC stopped working after about 100 hours. The so called AC experts said the Unit needed to be replaced. I thought this was BS and started checking myself. It turned out to be $40 dollar capacitor. The unit has been working fine ever since. Just my two since worth.

Unless you are getting an incredible deal, you might consider widening your search. Completely replacing the air conditioning and adding a diesel generator are two of the most expensive things one can do to a boat besides a repower.

If this boat is just the one for you, I would certainly get a second opinion on the recommendation to totally replace the air conditioning system. If it was hardly used, the problem very well may be something very simple that the current yard is incapable of diagnosing.

The AC unit on our R25OB 2022 stopped blowing cold air as well. When it did I found my unit has no charging port to be able to replenish the Freon. Mine was under warranty and they replaced the entire unit, however I found out that if it was not I could opt for having a charging port installed. You might check to see if your unit has or does not have a charging port. If not this could be an option for you.

We have a 2013 R27 with AC and generator. The generator is a Mase 2.7 at the forward end of the cockpit on the port side. AC is a Dometic 16k btu unit all the way forward in the cave. Both work great and we use the heck out of both of them here in Texas!

Another thought on this matter, the A/C unit installed on the boat you’re considering operates like a heat pump. It also provides heat when needed. So unless the owner also didn’t use the heating feature, he HAD to know the unit was non-functional.

Did the yard say what was the issue that makes complete replacement necessary?

I also put in a charging port when my AC stopped working. It had Freon so that was not the problem. As I said in an earlier post it was a burnt capacitor. Another thing to consider is if the unit was not used much for AC but mainly for heat there is a value in the unit that switches from heat to AC and that valve will stick in one position. If you can access the unit and valve you can try tapping on it and perhaps free it. I switch mine from AC to heat every couple months to keep the valve working.
Just another suggestion.
