We have changed the plans for this years trip from last years in the hopes that it gives everybody a little more time to explore on their own and relax.

If you plan to attend:

** Below is a list of the marinas where I have made arrangements for us to stay. Please call and make a reservation for your slip as soon as you can as they are expecting a busy summer in the islands. Please mention Ranger Tug Rendezvous when you call.

Reserve slip for 7/12 one night (unless you plan to arrive early) @ Old Port Cove Marina 561-626-1760
Reserve slip for 7/13 one night and 7/21 one night @ Old Bahama Bay (West End) 242-350-6500 (ask for Jackie)
Reserve slip for 7/15 through 7/20 (unless you plan to overnight @ a neighbouring island) @ Bluff House (Green Turtle) 242-365-4247

** Please let me know asap if you plan to attend. If there are more than 10 boats then some boats will have to find slips at another marina in Green Turtle (if available).

** Return sign-up form asap

** Please feel free to contact me for any questions or concerns you may have.

Talk to you soon!!

Question for those of you that went on this trip last year. How important is it to take a dinghy with you? We're looking to keep Gratitude as light as possible. Also, did you feel the water at the marinas was always available, or should we top off the water tank before we leave Florida?

Hi Tim,
We topped off water before we left Florida and actually carried extra water in gallon jugs. We found the water at the marinas we stayed at to be fine and there was always water available. You usually have to pay for water though, but the cost is not earth shattering. It is definitely cheaper than buying gallon jugs in the market. More important is bring food. Milk was $10.58 per gallon.
As far as a dingy goes, if you are with a group and someone does not mind picking you up then that will work. It all depends on how much anchoring out you want to do and going to shore when anchored etc..

Have fun!!

Thanks for the info Mike. I think we'll top off the water before we go just to be safe. Once we get to Green Turtle Resort I'll buy water from them. Thanks for the heads-up on the food too, I'll take a cooler with dry ice to keep things frozen until we need them. We decided to take the dinghy, as we enjoy being self sufficient. Looking forward to our big trip to the Bahamas in two weeks!

We stayed at the Bluff House Marina there. The docking was not the easiest, but a nice place and good water. If you rent a golf cart a half day is plenty to get to town, walk around have lunch and get back. Have a great time and let us know about your experience. Hey Mike that's a really nice blog. Glad to see you have set one up.

Wow Mike, nice blog. After looking at the pictures of the Abacos, we can't wait to go. I was wrong about our marina on Green Turtle, it's the Bluff House Marina, the same place you stayed, it looks like a great place. I've done some mods to Gratitude to deal with the summer heat while we're there. I added a third vent to the A/C system to move more cool air, had the windows tinted dark, and had a new dark windshield cover made. See if that helps keep the inside cool.

We are looking forward to the trip. So far we have just travelled up and down the ICW for weekend trips and anchoring out. We've been getting the boat ready and beefed up our anchor. We bought a 25# Manson Supreme. I just have to find a bigger bale for it now. I went to West Marine and no luck. Any suggestions, dimensions or part #'s for those who have similar anchors?
Thanks

The boat name is Arya II. Darn spell check.

Hi, My R-25 is in the shop recovering from an oil change the previous mechanic botched - and I'm hoping to be ready in time.

If anyone interested in a Ranger wants to do the trip as an experience, I'm open to crew -- to the point that I'll give up the forward bunk for a couple.

Non-smokers only since I'm very sensitive to smoke - and willingness to split the operating costs.

PM a phone number or give me a call. /Stu

For those who plan to stay at New Port Cove the night before departure, West Palm Beach has opened three large FREE city docks with water, but no electricity, about 40 minutes South of Lake Worth Inlet.

The docks are "day use only" and can be used until well after dinner. There is a fully stocked Publix supermarket a FREE trolley from the FREE docks.

Very close to the docks there are FREE anchorages - you can day dock, party to your heart's content, and leave the dock before you turn in, anchoring just a short distance away.

These docks have no electricity - said that before - so air conditioning is generator only.

The docks are located just South of a commercial marina with fuel for those in need.

Truthfully, New Port Cove are nicer docks but can accommodate only a very limited number of boats (mine is there now). New Port Cove is the closest dock to the local Yanmar authorized service (Jas), if you need last minute "medicine" - but, the City Docks have far better docking with nearly unlimited floating docks, OK security, food and provisions closeby and entertainment (most nights free) just about all the time.

City Docks are an easy (minimum no wake) run to Lake Worth Inlet - it is worth the trip.

Yes, the official Marina is Old Port Cove - I'm sorry if I created any confusion.

But

They have only 4 usable we slips and are a very busy dry stack marina - so there is lots of traffic during the day. Should they be filled - or - if you come a day or so early and want to enjoy West Palm Beach, provision, or just go someplace nice to eat in a safer neighborhood, the West Palm Beach city docks are available about 40 minutes South and are FREE, have lots of available space, water and no electricity, and live in a good location with lots of nice places to eat or snack.

I didn't mean to complicate the decision -- sorry.

/Stu

I'm sorry again, blush. I read the marina as New Port Cove when it is actually Old Port Cove, a newer and nicer place to stay.

Forgive me, please - my R-25 is in New Port Cove for surgery and the name is on my mind.

West Palm Beach is still a nice place to visit if you are coming in early - both WPB and New Port Cove are about the same distance from Palm Beach Inlet - so if the weather delays departure a day so, a visit to West Palm might be interesting.

In any case, Old Port Cove is a fine place to dock, a nice neighborhood, and lots of places to eat.

Sorry, again, for the confusion. /Stu
