2015 North Channel, Great Lakes Rendezvous

Jim,
I forgot to add in my post that we will be trailering our 21ec ( The Imp) from Toronto. Which marina are you going to and do you know if they have a suitable launch ramp?
Sharon

Glad to see another 21ec so close by, we are in Cambridge, we have launched our Sun Cat from spider bay for years, and this year we will have our new 21ec. They have fuel and pump out. We will be there from August 1 to September. We plan on cruising the week before the gathering and for a few weeks after. The area is far to beautiful to spend tied to a dock. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hello Sharon and Jim and welcome to this years North Channel Rendezvous. I'll be posting the registration form later this week here on Tugnuts as well as emailing everyone who has provided an email address. Please feel free to post back here with any questions or PM me.

Hello everyone, it’s almost summer and getting closer to our Rendezvous in Little Current, Ontario this August 9-11. I've sent an email to everyone who had expressed an interest in attending the 2015 event and you can see the official registration form below. For those on the list or for those still on the fence the time is coming to officially register. In order for me to secure the proper dock space, make plans for catering, etc. I need to obtain a firm head count. With that said I’ll need for you to print out the registration form, fill it out and return to me with you registration fee by June 25th. Thanks.

I’ll make all the arrangements for docking for the August 9-11 days, you’ll register and pay for your dockage upon arrival in Little Current. The good news is that the Town Docks have again agreed to offer three Rendezvous nights for the price of two. You will only need to make contact with the marina if you plan on arriving sooner then the 9th or staying after the 11th. If you’ll need dockage outside of the Rendezvous days then you can call 705-368-1725 to make reservation just for those dates outside of the Rendezvous dates. If anyone has any questions please feel free to email me.

To our generous sponsors: Reed Yacht Sales, Lefroy Harbour Marina, Global Marine Insurance and Ranger Tugs, we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you in Little Current.

I look forward to seeing everyone who attended last years event as well as welcoming many new participants to this years Rendezvous.

Cordially yours,

The "registration form" link in my prior post did not turn out to be a link at all and therefore no one could open it....sorry about that. Below you'll find a link that should be able to be opened so you can then print out the registration form for the upcoming North Channel Rendezvous in Little Current, Ontario.

Let me know if you have questions about the registration form or Rendezvous.

Jim,
We are going to be up in Canada for about a month. The Trent Severn before the R.T.R. in Little Current. I had a few questions since we need to be able to keep in touch. I wonder what phone plans or internet options besides free would you recommend while we are up in Canada?
Does it make sense to convert dollars to Looney's? I think that is what they are called up there. Some places people would not take dollars. For example at local farmers markets etc. I have noticed that at some gas station pumps they would not take credit cards that did not use the new embedded chip technology.
D.D.

I would convert to Canadian dollars, you will get a better rate at your bank. Many stores will take your dollar at par 😀
Gas station pumps may not work with us cards. You can pay inside with us cards. Not sure what to do about cell phones etc.

Dave:

We've always carried a little Canadian cash and used credit cards for all purchases and have never had a problem. Make sure your credit card will process a purchase made in Canada and do the automatic conversion. Not sure on the cell service as we turn ours off while in Canada. For U.S. attendees make sure to put your Passports on your list of things to bring.

Jim,
After an exhaustive search about getting best exchange rate. (not really) I think I'm going to open a checking account with local TD Bank as they are a Canadian bank as well. Our credit union's customer service seems to be getting worse anyway. It seems that if you use one of TD Bank's USA debit cards at one of their locations in Canada you get a pretty decent exchange rate and can draw up 760 dollars a day using the debit card. As you know we will be doing the Trent Severn waterway as well as the Little Current affair. We will be leaking money all along the way during the trip. Still are working on the phone service thing. Maybe I'll rent Ginny a Sat phone for the month.
D.D.

I'm bringing this back to the top, as a friendly reminder, for those that have not yet sent in there registration forms and checks for the August 9-11 North Channel Rendezvous. I've been given a date of June 25th to secure the proper amount of dock space and arrange final catering and I want to make sure that you are included. With that said I'll need to hear from you by then to make sure you're on the final registration list. If your registration is in the mail please disregard as I'll email you once I've received it. If you have any questions either post here or PM me, we'll make it work. See registration link below:

We look forward to seeing everyone in Little Current for a fun time, good food and informative sessions.

Life in Canada. I wouldn't worry too much about finding CAD - everyone here wants the Yankee dollar. After all it is worth about 20% more. The TD plan is good , I do the reverse when in the U.S. By the by, TD means Toronto Dominion and is a Canadian bank. As for cell phones, I just add a roaming plan when visiting south and presume the reverse would be the same. Make sure you have a passport as U.S. CUSTOMS WON't let you back without one. Ciao.

Jim & Lisa,

Dwain & Jackie aboard Lydia will attend the 2015 rendezvous in Little Current, as the loop modification process is positively moving forward and we are looking forward to revisiting the great time we had last year. I would, however, like to know where you put in, as I will do the same this year.

Hi Dwain and Jackie:

Good to hear from you. I've launched twice in Spanish at the Municipal Marina. The ramp is steep so 4 WD is probably a good idea and they have storage on site. From Spanish you'd have a day, or longer if you like and or depending on how much time you have, to cruise to Little Current. If you are coming straight to the Rendezvous then come into Little Current and you can launch at Spider Bay Marina. They also have storage available. I'll look for your registration in the mail and let you know once I've received it. Hope all is well in E. Lansing.

Good news is we have 17 boats registered for the North Channel Ranger Tug/Cutwater Rendezvous, bad news is we have to wait 3 more weeks before it starts. I've attached the "agenda" for anyones interest and remind those coming into Canada from the U.S. to remember to pack your PassPorts.

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Jim
Just wanted to say thanks to you and Lisa for taking the time to organize this. We had a great time last year and I am sure it will be great again this year. I have trouble getting my everyday things done and really appreciate you finding the time to make this possible for us to just show up and have it all organized. I say this as well to all who work on the other events.
We all show up and have a great visit but most of these events I know, get started at least a year ahead.
Again
Thank you

Jim,

I too would like to voice my deep appreciation for all you and Lisa do. We had a great time last year and are looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
