I need to remove the steering wheel in order to drill some holes in the dash behind it. Anybody got tips on how to remove the wheel? From looking at it, it is not obvious.

THANKS

Gently pry off the decorative cover over the wheel's hub to access the nut that holds the wheel on. On my '14 R25SC, the wheel pulled off rather easily by hand after removing the nut. There's a spline key on the shaft, be careful you don't lose it. However, on my '16 C30, the wheel would not budge after removing the nut. I suspect a gear or steering wheel puller tool would do the trick, but I didn't have one on the boat the day I tried.

Thanks for the prompt reply. After taking off the nut, the wheel was still very firmly attached, needing a puller that I do not have. Consequently, I found a way to drill then necessary holes using a small and usually grossly under-powered drill.

Was installing my new Garmin 210 VHF with AIS receive. Works great!

If the previous suggestion doesn't work, loosen the nut about 3/4 turn, pull gently on the wheel and hit sharply on the nut. Works on prop also.
