2015 Ranger Tugs & Cutwater Boats Rendezvous

Not registered as yet, but I can say to all who may be on the fence that last year's Rendezvous was great fun and very well orchestrated. I'll be able to make my decision when I have sorted out some medical issues and conflicts on the calendar. Onward to Roche Harbor. R29 RELIEF, Vashon Island

We've been hard at work finalizing menus, planning activities, and ordering Mardi Gras goodies for the 2015 Ranger Tugs & Cutwater Boats Rendezvous at Roche Harbor. We want to encourage everyone who plans on attending to sign up ASAP. We have over 60 boats registered already!!

The dates are September 23-27th, 2015
We're still working out the details but here's an overview of the weekend:

Wednesday - Free moorage with Thurs-Sun paid moorage
Thursday - Volvo engine seminars, Welcome party on Shipwreck Beach with Po' Boys and Gumbo cooked over the fire!
Friday - Blindfolded dinghy race, Poker Run, Fishing Derby, Hurricane Happy Hour on the dock, Special NOLA-inspired dinner catered by Roche Harbor, Live music at the Madrona Bar and Grill.
Saturday - Artisan Fair, Cornhole tournament, Happy Hour with Creole Shrimp Deviled Eggs and Oysters Rockefeller at the Bocce Ball Court, Another special NOLA-inspired dinner catered by Roche Harbor and served on the dock, Awards ceremony and live music at the Madrona Bar and Grill.

Of course the customer service desk, boat crawl, and factory boat display will all be happening from Thursday to Saturday. All events are still tentative but we are very close to being able to officially announce the weekends schedule.

There will be prizes for best costume and best decorated boat so be sure to plan for that. Here are a couple of websites that sell Mardi Gras goods:

My wife and I are in contract for a new C30. Until we have taken delivery of the boat and have her at our Oregon home, we don't want to commit to the rendezvous, but we are hoping to make it.

I found this looking through some family vacation pictures from July 1972. I'm not sure but something is missing. I think it's the Ranger Tugs... Thankfully, the showers have not changed. 😉

REGISTRATION UPDATE: Our plans are coming together for what promises to be one great event. In order to deliver the best experience we can, we have committed to an early September planning deadline. But, we want to keep registration open a long as possible for folks who need to delay their decision.

So, the early registration fee of $45.00 per adult will be good through August 31. The fee will increase to $75 per adult on September 1. Still, a great value. Register soon - save some money, and help us prepare for a good time.

Register for the 2015 Ranger Tugs & Cutwater Boats Rendezvous

Thanks, from the entire rendezvous team!

Bruce,
When you have time (I suspect you are very busy playing on the Desolation Sound Cruise), would you please post a list of those who have registered for buddy-travel planning purposes?
Thank you,
Joe

Good day!

We are new to the Ranger Tug 'cult' having just acquired our 2011 R27 named Echo in late May after selling our former C-Dory and then not bringing the "new to us" Tug north from the Portland area until we had an adequate tow vehicle and also widened our driveway to accommodate the much larger boat trailer in early July.

Anyway, never having been at a Ranger Tugs & Cutwater Rendezvous, we were wondering if many others are planning to bring their dogs along to Roche Harbor.

Will many (or any) of the ongoing activities be appropriate for having pets along or what is the situation in this regard?

Thanks for your feedback.

Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah on Echo

Roche Harbor is very dog friendly. Many of the boats attending will have dogs along, and yours are certainly welcome.

Cheers,

Bruce

It will be super to see you guys at Roche in your new ECHO....It will be super to see you guys at Roche in your new ECHO....

Thanks Herb. Hope you and Wilma are doing well sir. Hope all works as planned and we see you both at Roche Harbor!

After having had our C-Dory Venture 23' for eight years and my not having bothered to actually put the boat's name (i.e. C-Renity) on the boat Tanya decided it would be best if we kept the former owner's name rather then risk my not bothering to put a name on the "new to us boat" Ranger Tug again!

Bob and Gay, the couple we bought Echo from, sailed around the world, a 5-year excursion for them, many years ago on an approximately 50-foot sailboat named Scream. They then sold Scream and went boatless for many years finally buying the Ranger 27' in 2011 and naming it Echo .... the Echo of the Scream.

Bob and Gay then spent a year and a half living aboard Echo while they did the Great Loop. We are happy to be the 'new' owners of the Tug which we bought from them when they once again decided to go boatless for the time being.

Take care and stay safe,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah on Echo

Here's a list of boats currently registered for the rendezvous, along with home port and intended day of arrival at Roche. Sorry that member name is not a field in the registration database, and please excuse the lack of formatting. Hope this helps some of you form cruising pods.

Remember, the registration planning rate of $45 per person goes up to $75 on September 1. This will allow us to hit our planning deadline and keep registration open into September.

We are in Deer Harbor, and don't use our radar very often. When giving it a test August 12, we discovered that it had either stopped working, or we had completely forgotten how to turn it on. We detected power at the radar head, but no options for starting radar in the Garmin chartplotter screen. Will Garmin representatives be on hand at the Rendezvous, and if so, can I get on a list and have them help me troubleshoot the radar?

Thanks,
Dave Dilling

I hope you get your radar issue sorted. 🙂

This is a good reason/example for why one should always have the radar operational if you have one installed. In your Deer Harbor area (San Juan Islands, right?) I would have expected you to have used your radar frequently as whenever I've been in that area fog can be present for long periods of time.

Hi Dave - yes, Garmin will have a team on the docks. There is no list at this time, but they have a good track record of getting to boats who need something addressed.

Dave you do have to start the radar transmitting, it's not enough to just go into the radar screen. No sure about your Garmin but if I remember correctly, on mine I have to go into the radar screen, then press menu, and on the pop-out menu there's an option to start transmitting.

Steve

Hi, to start up the radar you hit the Garmin power button quickly (presuming t he Garmin is already on ) a screen will pop up and at the lower right corner it will say "power up radar". Touch it and the radar will wind up. Reverse procedure to turn it off.

Good sailing
Dave

Hi Bruce. On August 5 we registered for Roche. We are in Nanaimo BC and planning to arrive on Sept 23. PayPal took our $ but we do not see our "Bubbles" on your list. Please let us know if there is a problem.

We too have a problem getting our radar to transmit. We get "ready to transmit" but no farther. We hope that Garmin can sort us out in Roche Harbour if we cannot figure it out by then. Other suggestions are welcome. Best regards, Joan and Jim.

Hi Joan and Jim - I've replied in a direct email.
