I'm contemplating doing the Roche Harbour GTG this year.

My thoughts are to trailer our new R-21EC up to Anacortes/Skyline and drop the boat in the water there. I've discussed this with Bob (Nellie Two, Green hull R-29) who also thought others might do this and then flotilla up to Roche from there.

Are there others that would like to join up at Anacortes/Skyline ?

Hi there,

We will be leaving from Skyline on Wednesday for Roche ( at least that's our plan). Our R-27, Epic Dream, is currently in storage and will be launched on the 21st. We would be interested in joining a group or at least a pre trip cocktail.
We are driving up from CA and bringing the boat home for the winter after the rendezvous. We are really looking forward to meeting other tug owners. We purchased in April and haven't nearly had enough time to get to know "her".

We will also be traveling with a small pup.... Happy to hear Roche is dog friendly.

Can't wait,
Jeff & Jill

If some one is organizing a pre-Rendezvous gathering in Anacortes, please put us on the list. Our present plans are to arrive at Cap Santee on Tues 22 September and to continue to Roche as soon as the fog lifts on Wednesday

Laxey,

We will be in Anacortes on Tuesday the 22nd and would like to travel along with you in our 21-EC on Wednesday. Last year Nellie Two lead four of us up to Roche, which we really appreciated!

Eileen & Jay: Sounds like a plan. Yes, when I talked with Bob he did mention he's lead an R-21EC flotilla before... he's such a fine friendly knowledgeable fella. I've cruised with him before across Georgia Strait in quite severe weather conditions and he was a great help to me then.

[EDIT]
I've just registered for the GTG at Roche and my plan is to trailer our R-21EC and arrive Skyline/Anacortes either Tue sometime or very early on Wed morning to drop the boat in the water and join up with others with Bob (Nellie Too) to then cruise up to Roche to arrive later on Wed. When you say Anacortes, do you mean Skyline ? Are you trailering up to Anacortes/Skyline. My 1st mate cannot sleep on our R-21EC so will need to stay overnight in Anacortes if we arrive Tue, and will also need to stay in the Roche harbour dockside hotel during the GTG. We've stayed at the hotel before and it's fine.

Let me know what your plans are. PM me if you like and I can give you my personal contact info.

Thanks... Barry

kevin and I will be leaving from the Everett Marina on Wednesday morning (9/23) on our adorable cutwater 28. anyone else want to join us & we'll have our own flotilla heading up to roche harbor that day
thanks,

Please add my wife and I to the Anacortes list. I will register today for Roche. This will be my first effort at having her on the trailer. Will probably arrive late Tuesday for a Wednesday launch, as it is an 8 hour trip with a regular car. We are still trying to figure things out.

Are others still interested in joining for a group sailing from Skyline to Roche Harbour for the Rendezvous ?

I have discussed this with Bob (Nellie Too) previously and he did indicate he's interested in being with us, and will contact him again to be sure.

Here's my plan at this time.

1) On Tue Sep 22 I will be trailering our R-21EC from Edmonds to Skyline with expected ETA around mid afternoon or a bit sooner.

2) I will park our R-21EC on trailer at Skyline or have it sling launched into water and have it docked overnight ready for departure to Roche on Wednesday AM Sep 23rd with others. Not sure at this time what the departure time will be on Wed AM, but suspect it will depend on the plans others have for doing the cruise together from Skyline up to Roche with Bob/Nellie Too.

3) We will find local overnight sleeping accommodation in nearby Anacortes for Tue as we (Wife and I) don't intend to sleep over night on our R-21EC. We also have two active Wire Hair Fox Terriers (Chloé & Jake) with us that require more open space etc.

4) According to http://nwcruising.net/nmtable-us.html we have the following info

Average cruising speed of 7 knots and favorable weather (no high winds or fog etc)

a) Skyline to Friday Harbor is 16.2 n. miles and time is 2:18 hrs
b) Friday Harbor to Roche is 9.8 n. miles and time is 1:24

Thus total travel time would be some 3:42 hrs.

If we were to leave Skyline at around 11am we could be at Roche by 3pm.

5) I would return from Roche to Skyline on Sunday Sep 27th, departing at around 10am following the outbound course line in reverse.

6) We are also treating the Ranger Tug's Roche GTG as an opportunity for some of our family (my son Duncan, his wife Nora & sister Jessy and three children Dominic 7yrs, Petra 4yrs and Perrin 7 months) to meet up. For this we've rented a 3 BR farm house nearby (1 mile from Roche Harbour) http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/vac/5166085954.html. They are all registered as Guests for the Ranger Tug's Rendezvous with Laxey named as their boat and will arrive by land. 🙂. In the past our whole family has used Roche for annual GTGs so this works very well for us.

I will be contacting Bob to see if he's 'onboard' with the plan above.

Post back here if you would like to join in with the above plan.

Thanks... Barry & Gill

I am interested. I live in Skyline in Anacortes, and plan to splash Lady in Red on the 21st or 22nd. Skyline is on the west side of Anacortes, and is generally an hour closer for a 21EC (depending on the currents) to Roche Harbor than Anacortes' Cap Sante Marina, which is on the east side. I plan to leave Skyline on the 23rd no earlier than 10:00. A flotilla of 21's would be fun. We could arrange a time to loosely rendezvous on the east side of Rosario Strait to cross the Strait and cruise through the San Juans to Roche Harbor together. What a picture opportunity that would be! Since we are slower than the other tugs we wouldn't be holding anyone up (although Bob and Nita are always so kind to hang around us!).

Also, if anyone is staying at a marina in Skyline and needs transportation to the Brown Lantern on the 22nd, I can take three passengers.

Jeanie

As of today (Sept. 5) SLO Ranger will leave Port Orchard Marina Monday the 21st and overnight in Kingston. On the 22nd, we will continue on to La Connor, then to Roche Harbor on the 23rd. We would love to join up with anyone we meet along the way.
Joe & Robyn.

I am new to the area and hearing about Cap Sante and Skyline. Can anyone tell me about these two marinas. We have a Cutwater 30 and permit issues with trailering.

Chick and I will arrive at Cap Sante the 22nd from Wallace Idaho. Please add our name Schwartz to the dinner list for that evening if there is room. We have a R27, was named reflection and now is Skipperchic.

I'm checking with the Skyline Marina to see if reservations are required for sling launching (Monorail) our R-21EC when we arrive around 3pm Tue Sep 22nd. My plan is to prep the boat after arriving at Skyline and then leave it in the water docked overnight. We shall be staying at the Majestic Inn & Spa on Commercial Ave, Anacortes for Tue night. The Majestic is 'pet friendly'. 😀

Sometime between 10am and Noon on Wed Sep 23rd I suspect we will join up with others and then cruise on up to Roche Harbour with an ETA of no later than 4pm.

FYI... As our R-21EC is brand new we need to run the 'engine in' during the first 10 engine hours. So our speed will be varied as we cruise along.

We plan on leaving Roche on Sun Sep 27th at around 10am to return to Skyline with an ETA of around 2 to 3pm.

Hope to see others at Skyline. 🙂

Our plans have changed, as Robyn's son will be cruising with us. He will arrive at our house Tuesday evening, so we are now planning to trailer SLO Ranger to Cap Sante Wednesday morning, launch and cruise to Roche Harbor from there. Since that involves driving through Seattle, we expect to arrive at Anacortes around noon. We'd be happy to cruise with others if they are starting out that late in the day.
Joe

SassyRed I just sent you a PM but will repeat here. We're moored in Bremerton and leaving Wednesday morning. I want to try and time slack current at Deception Pass which is around 12:45pm. So I'm planning to leave Bremerton around 8am and cruise at 15-17 knots. Should pass by Everett around 10:00 if anyone wants to hook up. We'll be monitoring 68.

Just FYI. We hope to leave with Splash early Monday morning for an afternoon arrival at Cap Sante. All ETAs to be determined by traffic through Portland, Tacoma, and Seattle, as well as weigh stations. This is our first towing adventure and we are a bit nervous. Our next towing adventure will be back to Texas, then to Florida.

We will see you in Anacortes.

The best way to avoid downtown Seattle (I-5) when coming up from the south on I-5 is to fork off onto I-405 and go its full length up to where it joins I-5 well north of Seattle. If you're motoring at around 10am the I-405 north traffic should be light as well as it being light when you get onto I-5 at the north end of I-405.

The Chinese president will arrive at Paine Field, Everett and I presume will travel south to Seattle from there. So north bound traffic through Everett should be OK.

My plan is to start trailering north on I-5 from Edmonds at around 10am to 11am. ETA at Skyline Marina should be 1pm to 2pm.

Unfortunately if your total weight (boat+trailer+auto) is more than 10,000 lbs you cannot use the HOV lane(s)... and even if you're less than 10,000 lbs and cannot keep up with the prevailing HOV lane traffic you should not be using the HOV lane per the law/rules.
